Moving!

So if you haven't picked up on my hints lately... Jared and I have been doing a LOT of home improvements in the past few weeks. We spent the majority of the last 6 months decluttering and simplifying our home and our possessions. We got rid of our excess and have been slowly but surely updating things in our home that desperately needed a face lift. Why, you might ask? Why now, when we've lived in this house for almost 6 years?
Well, it's because we're moving!

Yep! Our little family of three is finally moving on and moving up. We've kicked around the idea of seriously moving for the past year(ish) and things are finally falling into place. Not only are we moving, but we'll be BUILDING in a new development. I truly never thought we'd be able to make this dream a possibility but it's really happening!

Originally our plan was to stay in our current home until it was paid off, which would be about another 2-3 years. But honestly? If we stayed here and paid it off, our very first reaction to paying it off would be to move out of it. So we started feeling the whole, "Why wait?" thing. Why work on paying this one off, only to move to a nicer, larger home with a mortgage we would then be working to pay off as well? Time is of the essence, right!?

We have a lot of equity in our current home and have been saving our pennies for this day, so we feel like we're in a good place to move. T is such a joy in our lives and we hope to continually grow our family. We are excited to be in a bigger house before any other kiddos come along.

I have about 50 other posts on various home/moving/financial/Sallie&Perkins posts that I now feel like I can write and put out there- so I'm excited to share this process with you all. As of right now? We are prepping our current home the best we can to get it on the market and get it sold. Lord, help us all!! ;)

  7. So excited for you guys! I really really wanted to build a house instead of buy one when we moved out of our apartment. We were going to go with a builder Jordan does work for, and he was going to do all the electrical in the house! But we couldn't find an empty plot that wasn't way out of our price range. Maybe some day! I hope your house sells quickly!

  11. Ah! So excited for you guys!! And SO freaking impressed your mortgage would have been paid off in 2-3 years! I'm certain the majority of America never even comes CLOSE to that! You guys are an inspiration!

We bought a house in a new development last year and definitely have NO regrets! It's so nice to know everything is new and covered by a warranty for a little while, at "no" cost to you. Good luck with building!! Can't wait to hear/see more!

  12. I had a feeling that was your news, with all the fixing you are doing - CONGRATS!! Best advice I can give, especially when building, is when its done, do a walk through on a rainy day. That way you can make sure every nook and cranny was taken care of. Our sellers knew there was an issue they weren't disclosing so when we tried to do those with rain, they declined every time. Can't wait to hear more about it all!

  36. Hooray! I did pick up on the hints you've been dropping. Isn't it so crazy how you wait to take care of projects that you've been thinking of only when it is time to sell? Thankfully on the other end of the home selling process, you'll get to have the house of your dreams. Isn't it so much fun to think of this as your forever home? I love the idea of my little guy growing up here and adding to the family in the coming years.

We basically did the opposite thing and I'm a little jealous of your building process. We bought an 1843 farmhouse on 8 acres of land and we're in the process of beginning renovations. It is so intense and daunting but I know it will be worth it. My husband and I are in the midst of the great kitchen debate island vs. big farm table. Can't wait for the work to be done but I think with an old house we will always have another project to tackle. :)

  37. Building is our dream some day! We originally thought we'd rent until we were ready to build but I'm so sick of renting! We are talking about trying to buy a house when our lease is up this Summer! So happy that you guys get to do this!
