Blog Posts I Haven't Hit Publish On

Alyssa has a fun link-up going now through November 11th and it's one of the most unique ones out there! She calls it a non-challenge challenge :) She gave 10 prompts and you can post about any of them anytime you want in that time frame. Less pressure to get them all in, or write them on certain days- but great blogging inspiration and great topic ideas. I'm snagging one off her list today... all the things I want to write a blog post about but haven't been able to hit publish on them yet.

A hair tutorial. I'll admit that I'm not that awesome at hair, but mainly due to a lack of trying to be awesome at hair. However, I did a really cute style months ago, took photos and everything but when I started writing about it everything seemed too hard to explain. Tutorials are apparently not my thing.

Detailed budget posts. If you've been reading for awhile you know about our alter egos Sallie & Perkins and I'd say we've been pretty open about how much debt we had and paid off. There is still more I'd like to share, but I struggle with where to draw the line with public finance stuff. Often I feel like people have gotten the wrong impression re: these posts so sometimes I just want to be completely transparent and put ALL the numbers out there. And then I quickly change my mind ;)

The Presidential election. Okay, I actually really don't want to give my opinion but sometimes I just wanna hammer away on a keyboard and let the world hear it. Because that would do a lot of good. (That's my sarcastic font in case you can't tell.)

How I REALLY feel about my son's birth and the way it happened. Now, I know what you're thinking... Erin you wrote THREE posts about it how could you have more to say?! Trust me, I do. And it's in a messy, emotional post that will likely never see the light of day.

Pet peeves of mine. This post is 100% written and edited, but it feels too mean to actually post. I didn't intend for it to sound that mean so it needs some work, obviously. Maybe I can soften it up so as not to offend anyone. I mean, everyone has pet peeves, right?!

Adoption. My niece was adopted at birth and she is one of my favorite little people in the world :) She's almost 3 1/2 now, by the way. (!!) Adoption is such an incredible thing and I wish I had the words to share more about it. Recently, Jared's cousin and her husband became foster parents with hopes of fostering to adopt. They have already welcomed multiple kids into their home and it's so cool to know what an impact they're having on these children. My hope is that Jared and I could foster or adopt one day as well.

SAHM Life: Reality vs Perception. I'm still adjusting to being a stay-at-home mom. It was only a couple of months ago that I decided to leave my job and many days that is still difficult to grasp. Being at home is wonderful but definitely has it's challenges.

How amazing Jared is. Sometimes I really want to write all these mushy, gushy posts about him because he is seriously THE.BEST. But I know many things are best kept to ourselves and I always want to respect his privacy as well. Just know that I'm pretty fond of my husband ;)

I think I'll stop there. What have you always wanted to post about but haven't yet??

  1. I love this prompt and everything about Alyssa's challenge. Except I haven't HAD TIME for it. I feel you on the pet peeve posts, sometimes they seem mean, but hey we all have them. I wanna see the Jared post and SAHM vs reality post.

  2. Usually pet peeves is something that many people can relate too!!! But sometimes it is hard to not come off mean or offensive with them. It's fun to see what is in everyone drafts that they haven't hit publish on yet!

  3. No matter what pet peeves post I read on any given blog, I'm like "great - I do that! They hate me!" ;) baha! I actually have one written as well and just haven't hit publish! What a fun prompt! Adoption is SO great. Caleb and I always thought we'd have a few children of our own then adopt, it's such a cool blessing to be able to change a child's life!!!! Love you!

  4. I think I have around 100 draft posts.. some are finished, some are just a couple sentences to capture a thought I had but the majority of them are posts I am afraid to publish for various reasons. I love this prompt! Something I might have to do as well. I am the queen of pet peeves... sometimes I get mad with myself for letting stupid, little things bothter me.

  6. I have so many posts that haven't seen the light of day either! Love this idea. I think you should totally publish the birth post - maybe it would be therapeutic in a way? I have a LONG post about my postpartum experience/baby blues that I have similar feelings about, but I think it will help me get it all out there - and maybe help someone else in the mean time!

  7. I feel like the posts that we always want to write are the ones that yes, get us judged and people don't read because they are probably thinking "ugh she's a female dog" so I usually don't post them but then sometimes I'm like whatever and do it because I need to get it off my chest.

  8. I have a pet peeves post too and I've never hit publish because it makes me sound like a monster. I really try to be of the mindset 'good for you, not for me' but sometimes people just blow my mind. I'd also love to read your post on adoption, it's something that has always interested me and I really hope that foster/adoption is something I can do in the future.

  9. I hate when I finish up a post, only to read it back and see how mean and blunt it sounds. I know exactly what you mean!

  10. Jordan and I have talked about doing foster care or adoption in the future! We actually are finishing up a 6-week adoption class at church just to get more information about it and it's been really great. I totally think you could do a pet peeves post if you softened it up a bit. I have to do that when I've done those!

  13. I've published two pet peeves posts and have one more drafted...ha! I always put a disclaimer that says I don't dislike people who do these things (well...some of them...), I just dislike the things themselves.

  14. I need to go through my drafts for this one. I have some that have been sitting here for years!

  15. I refuse to post anything about the election or my feelings on anything on my blog or my Facebook profile because I know that not everybody will agree with me and it'll start arguments that I just don't want to deal with. I can totally see how a hair style post could get complicated! I don't think that I'd be able to do it!

  16. Thanks for joining in and for the link-up love! :)

I've thought about doing a post on hair, mostly because it's the number one thing I receive compliments on. My bf the other day goes, "So, you pretty much just have perfect hair, right?" haha! But the thing is, I can't post about how to do great hairstyles or anything; I just want to post about how I have such healthy hair and that's why it looks good when it looks good. But I feel like that's boring to read about haha.

I would love to read all these posts, honestly! I am a huge PF nerd and love to read PF blogs, and budgets especially, but I get the privacy thing there for sure!

I have a post like your pet peeves--or a couple, actually. Ready to go, but I'm worried they'll come off as mean if people who don't know me read them and get the wrong impression of the tone I'm writing in.

Your respect and love for your husband is always nice and refreshing to read about. Luckily not so much in my blogging circle, but elsewhere, I see SO many women complain about their husbands, and husbands complain about their wives, complete with name-calling and eye-rolling and I'm like...do you even like each other?! So suffice it to say, you guys rock :)

  17. I refuse to talk about politics on my blog, it is one thing that I know will cause a storm.

  18. I LOVE that last photo of you two :)

  19. What a great challenge idea! I'd love to read your thoughts on foster care and adoption! I work in that field and it's so nice to hear about the families that are directly affected!

  20. Visiting from Alyssa's link-up. I think I'll be using this prompt too because I looked, and I have 31 posts in draft as I type this! Is that a lot? It seems like a lot.
I get what you're saying about "pet peeves" posts sounding mean. I read a post earlier that the blogger shared a list of things that annoy her. I related (as in, I do) 3 or 4 of the things she listed. Good thing I can laugh at myself! ha!

  21. Reminds me how many drafts I have in my dashboard, sitting there just waiting for me to get it out into the blogosphere. Aw, I don't know. Some topics were written out of pure venting out.

  22. Give me your hair tutorial. I need some new ideas for all this hair. It's gotten so long but if I don't find something new I may just chop it off and that isn't what I want to do at all.

  23. I actually started publishing detailed budget posts on my blog recently. Since my husband's in the military, his pay is public knowledge (you can seriously just Google it!) So we decided to share our detailed budget to dispel the myth that enlisted soldiers like my husband live beyond their means and buy Ferraris, have 8 kids they can't support, etc.

  24. Ooooh this is such a good one! I actually just deleted a ton of drafts that I decided I had no intentions of ever publishing haha. I'm still really interested in reading more about his birth, I'm always so shocked by all these crazy things that happen and how different everyone's experience is. Stay at home mom reality, I would love to read a bunch of those posts because it's definitely not what I thought it would be haha!

  25. I feel like I always have a half-written pet peeves post in my head. I'm always afraid I'm going to hurt someone's feelings, so I rarely post them.

The SAHM reality! I feel you. So wonderful, SO HARD.

  26. Tutorials are really hard! i haven't done anything like that, but i've almost shared a few things and gave up before i started lol.
i love reading budget posts, but i actually don't like reading super specific things. i mean, i like to know what people spend on grocery and stuff, absolutely, but i get like the heeby jeebies when people talk about income and specific things like mortgages and stuff. i don't know. i'm weird.
i posted about pet peeves/things that make me rage and i had to hardcore edit it because i was like wow... am i really this mean? lol
sometimes i want to write about KC and how amazing i think he is... but i'd rather keep it to myself because it's something that is hard to get across, you know? i know when i read about other people's spouses i'm like 'oh how sweet' or 'wow, that's so great' but it's never this overwhelming emotion like how i feel about KC... (obviously, that would be weird) you know? it just doesn't come across the same way it's felt. or maybe that's just me.

  27. Awesome list! I know what you mean about tutorials...is there a tutorial on how to properly do a tutorial? Because I need to read that! Lol. I started blogging after I had kids, but I do have a mouthful of stories and advice that I can't help but share to every single pregnant person I meet. As for the SAHM thing, I can totally see myself nodding in agreement to that post already because I did it too so I understand the loneliness, sense of not accomplishing enough, etc. that hits you sometimes when you're at home all day without any adults to talk to. But once they grow up, you can't get that time back so enjoy it (even all the not so great days) while you can. And please, please, please post that pet peeve one! I've got one stuck in draft too that I've been going back and forth about posting but I'm thinking I'll just do it. Get it off my chest and out of my draft list! Lol.

  28. The hair tutorial thing -- omg, why is it so hard to explain what the heck you've done, right?! And there's no way in hell I'm about to stand in front of a camera and try to explain because then I'll be a mess on camera instead of just in writing. Blah! The SAHM thing -- YES. I feel like my post would be so freakin' -- well, mean -- because too many people reallllly just don't understand. Loved coming across your blog from the challenge!

  29. I am not a parent, but I think many would like to read your "real" post about birth. I bet some people had the same feelings and haven't wanted to admit it. Pet peeve posts are always entertaining.

  30. I found your blog on the link up. I think everyone can relate to the pet peeves post. I am finally learning about having a budget. I don't post about the election either publicly. I wish I could do a tutorial. I'm not so great at them.
