Weekly Lessons

I figured I'd wait around until Wednesday to get rollin' in the blog world this week. Aka- my days somehow go so quickly and I don't pause long enough to sit and write. I was really excited to see that Mattie and Lex were starting a brand new link-up today called "Weekly Lessons" though, so it was perfect timing to try and actually post today. Here are my incredibly deep, thought-provoking life lessons this week...

I truly am a night owl and that's when I can get the most things done. I love my sleep... like, a lot- but sometimes it needs to be sacrificed in order to accomplish a few things. I just work better in the late evening. Be it writing, working on my Etsy shop or occasionally cleaning, I function better at night.

Coffee isn't ALL that bad. I have never been a coffee drinker, unless you count the occasional sugary-fancy beverage at Starbucks that doesn't taste like coffee. But late nights and new babies mean caffeine in a more pure form is necessary at times. I'm trying to make myself like good ol' fashioned coffee.
It's an illusion! That's just a hot chocolate in there!! ;)

Clorox wipes are awesome. Sometimes you don't have all the time in the world to scrub things down, but these have been lifesavers and time-savers lately.

If you try to plan a fun, date night at home- that will be the night your child decides he wants to stay awake 2 hours later than normal. True story, this has happened twice to us now. T apparently doesn't like missing out on anything fun.

If I want to get something done, I have to write it down. This isn't necessarily a new lesson for me, but it's just becoming more and more true with a baby now. I live by lists!

Speaking of lists, meal planning is so important. It's something else I've slacked on in the past few months, but after reading Amanda's post I feel so motivated again. Jared and I have revamped our budget due to all our life changes and cutting back on our food budget is a must.

Fall is going to be the.best.ever. I love fall every year, but I am just beyond thrilled it's almost here this year. Cooler temperatures mean more walks with T, beautiful colors and all the festivities beginning. I'm so excited to get out as a family more as it gets easier to be out and about with him.

Even the right decisions are hard to swallow sometimes. I'm thrilled that I'm able to be home with T, truly I am... I just never imagined how difficult it would be to not have my job. I find myself thinking about my boss and coworkers all the time and wondering how things are going at the office! With football season starting I feel so out of the loop, and it's a strange feeling. While I don't miss the long hours and the drunk fans, there are certain things that are tough not to miss. I'm sure it'll get easier as time goes on but with football kicking off there's a little piece of me longing to still be a part of the team.

Loving this link-up and definitely plan to join in the fun more often. Thanks for hosting, gals!

  1. I am going over to check out that meal planning post now! I wish I could be a night owl sometimes! I am such a morning person and if something needs to get done in the evenings, odds are I will try to push it off til morning. :)

  2. Caffeine is certainly a necessity! And so is meal planning! I don't know what I would do without meal planning, probably be a complete mess all the time. And I am so so so so ready for fall. Did I mention very ready? Because I am!

  3. Gimme all the Clorox wipes.

Sooo excited for Fall- I'm already trying to figure out what Halloween costumes to do this year :)

  4. I'm not a coffee person, either! My parents always told me I'd like it "when I grew up," but apparently, I'm still a kid. I cannot express how much I love those Clorox wipes. Best invention ever. I'm also super excited for fall. Can't wait to see pictures of T in a pumpkin patch or something equally as cute. I'm sorry to hear about you missing your job - I don't blame you! I have a sneaking suspicion, though, that you're going to love hosting game watch parties and enjoy being a fan for a while!

  5. What a fun link up - how often will it be?! I'm definitely participating next time! I am right there w/ you on coffee. I hardly drink it, and when I do, sugar it up baby! I don't believe I'll ever be a black coffee drinker.

YAY for Fall!!! I'm so ready for crisp air, bonfires and cooler temps!

  6. Hmmm, I think that I may have to join this linkup since the other humpday linkups kinda died out.

I just started drinking coffee within the last couple of years & now, I love it! I started drinking it with a packet of hot cocoa mix & a lil bit of vanilla creamer. Now, I don't use the mix & just have some creamer & a lil bit of sugar. Delish! :)

  7. This is a fun linkup!! I'm not a big coffee drinker either, hot chocolate for the win. We are really working on sticking to our budget right now and not eating out either. Meal planning takes time but the weeks we do it life is much easier (and cheaper)!

  8. Thanks for linking up! I used to be the biggest night owl and somehow I morphed into a morning person. I'm not sure when it happened. I kind of like it, but I also kind of hate it when I'm trying to force myself to stay up at 11 on a weekend. Haha. Clorox wipes are the best. And fall...so excited! Definitely busting out all the fall decor tomorrow. And it's a high of 70ish for the next few days here! I've been drinking 'coffee' for years and yeah...I still needs lots of sugary stuff in it to enjoy it!

  9. Yay, I love this link-up! Thanks so much for sharing. I'm right there with you being a night owl--I tend to do most of my blog work in bed with the boyfriend snoring next to me. Clorox wipes are the only reason I will clean my home haha and YES to Fall! Ahh so excited!

I don't know how you went so long without coffee in your life - its the only way I make it through the day! haha

  11. Love this! I am quickly learning that writing things down is a must! Pregnancy brain is for real. haha

  12. Glad my post helped give you some motivation! It is totally understandable, especially with your job, to feel left out and a little sad with the start of the season. Praying you are able to not miss it too much! Maybe go back and read some of your old posts about how stressed out you were when you had so many long hours. ha! :)

  13. I live and die by lists these days! Seriously, if it's not written down, it is not stored in my brain for more than a fleeting second. Grocery lists, packing lists, get-ready-in-the-morning lists, to do lists, chore lists... i have never had so many scraps of paper laying around in my life. It's working, though! :)

  15. I'm so excited for Fall as well!! Cooler temps and less humidity sounds so nice!

  16. Definitely missed my job at first too! But, you can always go back, eventually!

  17. I literally just had Freddie read that post from Amanda and was like, "We HAVE to re-do our food budget!!! Right now!" Haha, glad we aren't the only ones!

I can not even imagine how much you must be missing things, especially since football has been such a huge part of your daily life! You are such a strong woman and mother :)

  18. I am all about writing things down! If I don't write it down, it doesn't get it! You guys are going to have such a fun fall!

  19. So many good lessons! If I don't write things down, they don't happen. I only get work done at night and I remember feeling super left out of the teaching loop my first year being a stay at home mom. I missed having lunch with my friends the most. So I'd text them occasionally or they'd call during lunch to say hello. I promise it gets better with time. Thinking of you!!

  20. oooh i need some clorox wipes in my life haha.
i don't drink coffee at all, and even when i do go to starbucks and get the sugary drinks, i get them without coffee because i hate it that much haha. i'm sure it will be my best friend one day!
i am a morning person the same way you are a night owl - i love sleep, but i will wake up early if it means i can get stuff done. like this morning i got up obscenely early because i'm going on vacation tomorrow, and i wanted to go to work early and get all the things done.. i work better without people here as well haha.

  21. I have to write it down to remember too. I swear my old age is showing ;)

  22. I have been trying to become a coffee drinker for awhile now. I have to put so much sugar or creamer in it now it makes it so unhealthy. I think I'm just going to have to start forcing regular coffee down until I can stand it.

  23. I totally agree on coffee and Clorox wipes -- they are staples at my house! Also, I can 100% sympathize with the work feeling. When I left the NFL to be with Dane in Hawaii, it took a good year for me to stop thinking about my co-workers and wondering...but what if? I knew it was the right decision to be with my husband (duh), but it didn't make me feel professionally satisfied. It wasn't until I told my therapist this (always good to have one of those in your back pocket - no shame!) that she said for me to look at my life like a pie -- that work was a slice, family was a slice, I was a slice, my friends were a slice, etc. That when the work slice was missing, it of course made the pie feel like something was gone, but with time, that slice can be overtaken with something else. It really resonated with me, so I figured I would share!

  24. Coffee and clorox wipes and meal planning forever. <-That may be the most momish comment I've ever left and I do not even care.

  25. Lately I prefer hot tea more than coffee, but I still like to get coffee drinks at Starbucks. I am also looking forward to fall this year!

  26. I'm the exact same way when it comes to remembering things! If I don't write it down then it won't get done. And I know that we would be so lost without meal planning too! It just makes everything easier to remember and to plan out the weeks and stay healthy too!

  27. I'm a night owl too, I feel like I can be more productive then.
