10 Things I've Learned in 10 Days

Hey blog friends. Me again, still alive and still existing in this whirlwind of newborn-land. The past 10 days have been the craziest of my life, there is no other way to describe it. You always hear other people talk about this phase of life and imagine how it'll be for you, but until you're in the thick of it there's just no way to fully understand what it will be like. Jared and I are having so much fun figuring out this parenthood thing and I know every day will be a new adventure, a new challenge and a new chance to fall in love with our little guy.

I've learned a lot already in the past 10 days and I just figured I'd share what those things are:

1. Bodily fluids are no longer disgusting when they are your own child's.

2. I can somehow exist sleeping only 2 hours at a time for multiple days in a row.

3. If someone offers to bring you a meal or to run an errand for you- LET THEM.

4. C-sections suck and I would never wish them upon anyone.

5. I'm a terrible patient and hate hospitals. I also have a lot of strong opinions about the medical world, inductions and childbirth now. One day I might be able to post about it all.

6. Life can change overnight and it messes with your mind. Just hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

7. Parenting with Jared is already my favorite thing in the entire world. I have fallen more in love with him every day since T got here.

8. Post-baby body is super weird/fascinating. I lost 20+ pounds the first 10 days (woo!) but everything else looks TOTALLY different.

9. Even though the only things he really does involve sleeping, eating and dirtying up diapers- he is totally our #1 source of entertainment right now.

10. My son is the cutest and I say that about 1,000 times a day. I can't believe he's ours!!

Happy Monday!! :)

  4. He is adorable! You are a lack of sleep warrior.

I have heard more terrible induction/resultant c-section stories in the past year...what is up with that! Glad you're home and hopefully healing well but sorry if it was a bad road for you at the end.

  9. So true about bodily functions. I think snot bubbles are seriously the nastiest things ever, but I will straight up reach into R's nose and pull out a wet, green booger no problem. Great to hear from you! I'd love to read your thoughts on medical/baby-related things if you get around to writing about it :)

  11. Love the picture, mama! You look great! When I had Kenley my doctor talked about how my scar would be hardly noticeable when she turned 1 and I couldn't even imagine getting through the first month, let alone a year! My incision ended up getting infected and they had to open it back up, which was not fun! So just take everything slow and easy! Now she is one and I can't believe how fast it went! Can't wait to hear more about how you guys are doing :)

  12. C-Section's are the worst but a great partner makes a big difference. Tyson was fabulous with K while I got back on my feet.

My body is still different in some places and I still think it's weird. Like why did my hips change shapes and how do I find clothes that fit right now?!

  15. Congrats!! I haven't had a c-section, but I have had abdominal surgery, and I can NOT understand why some people opt for it... Just personally. I'd avoid it, haha.

  16. Congrats again - I know I haven't had a baby yet but I have seen, seriously, how once the baby is born, that the weight thing with ladies who were pregnant are interesting. A friend of mine looked amazing after birth and thought we all were lying and we are like no, you can tell the baby is out and it was mostly that.

One day he will start sleeping...and so will you! :)

  17. I have read so many different birth stories involving c-sections and even other types of procedures during vaginal childbirth that seem super scary and I cant even think about it all right now haha. I hope that you heal up quickly so you can just focus on enjoying that adorable little man without being in pain. Even if it is with only 2 hours of sleep. Haha!

  21. It's so true that bodily builds are so much less disgusting when they belong to your kid. Hang in there, lady! I'm anxious to hear about your experience if you decide to write about it!

  24. he really is the cutest baby! can't wait to hear your strong opinions.

  25. I'm curious to see your opinions on all that if you get to where you're able to share it. I was induced, and it went flawlessly as far as delivery goes. However, next time around I will not be induced unless absolutely necessary. I missed experiencing the excitement of going into labor on my own, and I had horrible back labor which ended in me getting the epidural I tried so hard not to get. From what I've read, I think the contractions were so bad because of the pitocin, and I feel like maybe next time it'll be more manageable without the drugs. I hope you're able to find peace with your delivery as I can't imagine the feelings it brings when things don't go the way you want them to.

  26. Eeeek! Can't believe your baby posts are here! Thanks for coming early T! :) Good luck in newborn land!!! It sounds like you are just enjoying all the craziness that it brings!! :)

  27. After hearing about everything that your body goes through with a c-section, I definitely want to steer clear of them as much as possible too! I think that it's pretty amazing to hear about what you can do on very little sleep, especially when a baby is involved!

  28. Amen to hating c-sections and having strong opinions about birth... I'm sorry you had to go through it! I still haven't posted about my last labor and delivery because it's just still bleh for me. But he's here! You did it! And you're at home and surviving! Good luck, you're doing great!!!

  29. So excited for you!! It really is all totally different :P

  36. I love love love this! I remember thinking in the early days, if I could just get a 4 hour stretch of sleep, I was a new woman haha. Please, let me know if you want to talk! Just send me an email and I can give you my phone number. Someone offered this to me when Mav was little and it was a God-send! No question is too weird ;)

I'm sorry that things were not what you prepared for, I am looking forward to reading your story if you ever decide to write about it. I'm really interested in becoming a doula and this is one of the reasons why!

  40. After having Connor, someone brought us this awful meal. It was the last thing we had in the freezer. We baked it and was like "forks up" and dived in. At that time, I would have much rather eat a bad meal than cook!

  41. I love this!!!! And postpartum everything is just weird. Haha. And your new dinner conversations with Jared will be, "Did he (Tyler) poop today, what kind was it?" Hahahaha. Welcome to motherhood. It looks great on you!!!

  42. I am so late and just now catching up on all your baby-related posts, but CONGRATULATIONS!! It sounds like things didn't go quite as planned (...understatement lol?) but that little face has to be 1,000,000,000x worth it!!! I almost cried when you posted that picture and I DONT EVEN KNOW YOU haha! I just imagine like all the love in the entire universe is what a new parent must feel. I am crazy. And I probably need a baby of my own haha. But seriously, so SO happy for all! And he's the cutest you are so right!!!

  43. Haha I love this and how honest you are! I feel like most people sugar coat things. Honestly, I've often wondered how I'd be able to get thrown up on and not throw up myself so good to know that changes when it's your own. And congrats girl, he really is a cutie! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
