Super Bowl 50

Can't believe it took me until Thursday to say this but I wanted to be sure to wish you all a HAPPY:

It is indeed one of the best weeks/weekends of the year and I've been stalking the coverage of everything going on out in San Francisco... holding back tears from time to time of course (whodey forever) but still loving the excitement surrounding Super Bowl 50! Here's just a quick survey for all you other football fans that wanna' talk gameday stuff ;)

Who I'm Rooting For:
Cam Newton and those Carolina Panthers!! I've told multiple people this over the past couple of weeks and most are surprised by my answer. Why, I don't really know. But I'll tell you why I am rooting for them:

 - Cam Newton is hilarious and adorable and has fun doing his job. Lots of people don't like to see a quarterback dancing in the endzones, having a good time on the sidelines, etc... but to that I say "psh!" Winning is fun and he's had a lot of wins this year so let the man celebrate. Plus, he's a good guy these days. (Yes, I'm aware of his college days and the whole "laptop thing" but that was in 2008 and everyone deserves a second chance.)

- Giving kids/fans football every time they score is becoming a "thing" and I can't get enough of those reactions each week.

- I love that the Panthers are another small market team like Cincinnati. They don't get a lot of hype or love most of the time and I can relate to that.

- Most years I end up picking the NFC team in the Super Bowl. It's next to impossible for me to root for an AFC team that is there at the big game instead of my Bengals. #stillcrying

-Finally, Cam Newton is also one HUGE reason why I won my family's fantasy football league this year.

What I'll be Eating:
All the things in all the land. <-- That exact phrase is what I've told Jared I want for dinner approximately fifty times in the past few weeks. I am hungry all.the.time. so bring on the food this Sunday. Buffalo Chicken dip or Crack dip are both top contenders.
If you're making this for a crowd be sure to double (or triple!) this :)

Pregame/Halftime Performances:
Coldplay is a solid choice + the Beyonce addition will I'm sure make people go crazy. I like them and they probably appeal to a lot more people than Katy Perry did last year- although you know I'm a big fan of hers ;) I'm actually pretty stoked to hear Lady Gaga do the National Anthem AND to see if any of the rumored guests are true. Names like Bruno Mars, Adele, Rihanna and Taylor Swift are all floating around as possible cameos. We shall see!

Commercial Sneak Peeks?:
Can I just say I hate that you can watch a majority of the commercials pre-Super Bowl now? What fun is that? I try to stay away from any of the teasers out there because I love seeing what people are shelling out all that money for come game day. This year costs are up to as much as $5 million for a 30-second spot. No pressure, advertisers!!

So tell me- what are your plans for this weekend? Who are you rooting for? Are you hosting a big party or laying around in your sweats with a personal bag of chips and dip like me? Bring on the football, baby!!!

  2. Woohoo SuperBOWL! I have excited plans outside the superbowl this weekend, but I'm super excited to watch the game. I'm torn between cheering for CAM and cheering for UT's Peyton Manning. It should be a great game!

  3. I will be lucky to make it through the game. I only watch for the commercials and I hope they are better this year than last...oh yea and Coldplay and Beyonce of course!

  4. I like Manning but I truly think Cam deserves this Super Bowl win!!!! Hoping to get some dip (of either kind) this weekend! ;)

  5. I hate all the pre-released commercials too. What is the point in paying millions of dollars just to have your commercial seen ahead of time?

I don't particularly care who wins, but I'll probably be rooting for the Broncos because that's my aunt's favorite team. And I live in Kansas so they're closer and that means more fans around here.

I'm making wings and nachos and jersey cookies. But since Quinn's helping me, the jerseys will most likely be pink and purple.

  6. I HATE Denver - with a passion. And I (like you) find it hard to root for an AFC team (other than the Chiefs). I adore Cam Newton. Go Panthers!

  8. YAY! I love seeing people rooting for my team :) It's nice to see someone appreciate them and respect what they've developed over the past few years. They never get as much respect as they deserved and somehow managed to be underdogs most of the season, even as they went 15-1. I'll be cheering my BUTT OFF

  10. Whoohoo Carolina!! I have to admit when we first drafted Cam I was like this might not be such a good idea but he has really turned himself around.

The closer we get to Sunday the more excited I am, I don't know how I going to make through the whole day waiting the super bowl should be a 1 PM game. :)

  11. I wish we got to see the commercials here in Canada, oddly enough it would probably be enough motivation to watch the Super Bowl! I always have to settle for watching them on YouTube on Monday. That dip looks delicious, maybe I'll have myself a Super Bowl Food Party because all these appetizers and dips sound amazing!

  12. OK, I'm going to pretend that I didn't read the first half of this point. ;) And Pretty sure I'm making that dip - and doubling the recipe (for myself).

  13. I am with you routing for the NFC team, there is almost never a time I will cheer for another AFC team that isn't the Ravens in the Super Bowl. I like Cam Newton as well, he is about the fans and that is so important. My husband went to high school with Robert McClain, so we kind of have to cheer for them ;)

  14. I'm rooting for the Broncos because Colorado is my 2nd home and since the Rams said hasta la vista to MO, I just picked my other favorite state. We're headed to a friends house, his house is the superbowl location every year. And I'm curious about Gaga with the anthem - Keith said yesterday she was playing it and I said no, its coldplay but I never knew her until last night.

  15. GO Panthers! I'm rooting for them because Jared Allen was a Viking for a while, Michael Oher is one of my favorites and Cam Newton makes me smile with how much he loves playing and loves the kids!

    1. oh I love Jared Allen too - because before he was a Viking, he was a Chief!

  16. I've been making Crack Dip for awhile now, but had no idea what it was called. I ve just always called it Frito Dip. Haha. Even though I eat it with Ruffles.

  17. You know I love this post! Although I have to say I'm torn between the Panthers and Broncos. I LOVE the panthers, but I've had a love for Peyton for quite some time and I like the idea of him riding off into the sunset on a 2nd SB victory. At least it's a win-win either way :)

Also, that crack dip. Every time you post about it, I say I'm going to make it. This needs to be the year....especially since Sunday is totally going to be my cheat day!

  18. oh that sucks about the commercials and you can watch them before. i am not a big superbowl fan (shocker) we normally go to our friend's house and they have a big party... and i basically just sit and eat all the food. last year, i did a wedding thing with my friend and i'm doing it again this year, so i miss out completely. i don't mind, because i get free cake. high five!

  19. I'm rooting for Denver although, you did make a strong case that almost swayed me. I'm not against Carolina, but I do think it would be awesome for Peyton to come back from that injury and get a ring.

  20. You go girl lol! I'm a bit biased from being an Auburn fan so we're all pulling for Cam and the Panthers down here ;)

  21. Now I see what you mean about that dip - I'd be thinking it about it all week!! I am going for the Panther's since I'm a sore loser and we just lost to the broncos lol! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  23. Ohh man, that dip looks so good! I'll probably be tuning into the game to check out the commercials, and I might have to whip up that dip too!

  24. Panthers all day every day!!! I hope with everything I have they win the thing. This team just came out of no where. It's like something finally clicked, and they deserve to go all the way.

  25. I'm rooting for the Broncos tonight because of Peyton and Von Miller (hooray for Aggies in the NFL!), but I wouldn't be upset if the Panthers won either. Cam really is an amazing player, and he's the reason I went far in a few of my Fantasy leagues of the years! I can't wait for all of the food and festivities either, and I'm with you on having the commercials before the game is no fun! I love watching them live!

  26. I am hoping to Broncos keep it up...Peyton is a favorite of mine! Hope you are enjoying all the food in the land!
