Halloween Weekend!

Pumpkins are carved and our candy bowl is stocked- I think we are ready for Halloween weekend over here! This bowl is one of my favorite festive items we own so it's what enticed me most to hand out candy this year ;)
Our bro/sis-in-law are coming over for a fun double date tomorrow and we can't wait! Even though our schedules are all so different I feel like we've been able to squeeze in more time together lately which rocks. Saturday will consist of dinner, passing out candy and probably ending the night with a scary movie if I can handle it. (Although I'd opt for a nice, non-scary round of Monopoly as well)
While we were carving our pumpkins a couple nights ago, this stray cat sat outside our door and stared at us for a solid 20 minutes. Kinda' creepy, kinda' sad because I felt bad for it too. It looked healthy, so I know someone has been feeding it at least. Maybe it just wanted in on all the Halloween fun, too?
Other than a little Halloween fun, Jared and I are going to get started on some house projects that have been put off for far too long so I'm pretty excited about that! We have a lot of downtime this weekend so I think we'll be able to get a lot done. And after enjoying a bye week, my Bengals are back in action for a HUGE game against the Steelers on Sunday. BRING IT ON! Whodey :)

What's Up Wednesday

A link-up with some fun prompts seems like the perfect way to blog this Wednesday. I read Shay's blog mainly for her recipes but I figured I'd join in the fun today with What's Up Wednesday.

What we're eating this week:
Lots and lots of salads! After some pretty junk-filled weeks Jared and I were ready for a bit of a reset so we've been loading up on greens and lots of fruit too. Looking forward to some new recipes next week, but for now the salads are rocking.

What I'm Reminiscing About:
The last visit with my niece. It went way too fast, as their visits normally do. However, I got to Skype with her cute face last weekend and I heard a very good "Aunt Erin!" so I'm happy with that :)

What I'm Loving:
How cozy our house feels right now. The candles lit, the fall decorations- I might like it even more than our Christmas decor. Shh, don't tell Jared!

What I've been up to:
Carving our pumpkins! We finished them Monday night and are proudly displaying them on the porch now- I'll show you what they are tomorrow! Hopefully they will last through Halloween. I sprayed the inside of them with a cleaner that contains bleach, I heard that helps preserve it. We'll see!

What I'm dreading:
Next week's home Thursday night game. I've had my downtime, I've enjoyed the away games and bye week all back to back to back, but now it's go time. A Thursday home game means working 9am until probably 11pm or later that night. And no coming in late the next day or anything either. Excuse me while I nap until that day. Whodey.

What I'm working on:
Lots of new stuff for my Etsy shop and installing blog designs left and right as well. Last week Helen and Sarah both got face-lifts!

What I'm excited about:
So many things! A much-needed manicure on the agenda for tonight, a girls night scheduled for next weekend, thinking about vacation plans for next year, the list goes on!

What I'm watching/reading:
Not a lot in either category. Other than football games and a couple scary(ish) movies Jared convinced me to watch that's been about it. I have not picked up a book in quite some time BUT I am pretty thrilled to say I just got a Kindle Fire and will be loading it up with library rentals this weekend. My brain needs a place to wander and I can't wait to dive into some new books :)

What I'm listening to:
Adele's new song because she is amazing. And lots of Mumford and Sons station on Pandora.

What I'm wearing:
I mentioned last week that I'm in love with my new Loft leggings, although they call them 'ponte pants' so I think I'll be purchasing another color. Also, Steph recommended these pants from NY&Co and I snatched up a pair on sale as well. Another great choice! As you can see, my work wardrobe needed a little pick me up and both these pieces are helping.

What I'm doing this weekend:
Nothing at all Friday night (thank goodness- I need some downtime!), passing out candy to trick-or-treaters Saturday and watching my Bengals take on the Steelers Sunday. BIG GAME! Ready for some quality, fun time with my man.

What I'm looking forward to next month:
Jared turning 30 and Thanksgiving. I'm already dreaming of the desserts ;)

What else is new:
I think that should about sum things up. It's new that I've blogged three times this week, haha. What has gotten into me? :)

Link up with Shay if you want and uses the prompts below!

A Leisurely Drive

I feel like fall is just more fall-ish this year. The colors seem brighter, the air smells crisper (probably not a word) and I've just been enjoying this season to the fullest. I think I feel this way partially since I've spent more time outdoors this fall than I have in previous years. Between evening walks with Jared, sitting out at junior high football games and just spending more time out and about- I've really soaked in all the fall I can.

Last week Jared and I went out leaf-peeping :) I read that phrase somewhere once and thought it was hilarious, so I wanted to try it out. Regardless of what you call it, we went on a leisurely drive through the country roads that I love so much and just took in all the views. We pulled over in the middle of no where and shot from photos and just took the time to appreciate how gorgeous fall is. It'll be gone too soon, I know, so I'm glad we spent the afternoon enjoying it.

I always feel so refreshed when I take the time to just s-l-o-w down. I am guilty of feeling like I always need to go, go go! Or get a million things done in one day's time. But wow, how a relaxing day can do wonders for the mind and spirit. I hope I can continue with this mindset as the holiday season approaches.  Because sure, life will get chaotic but it's truly about enjoying the little things along the way.

Sitting Out

Today I thought I'd be on here recapping the annual Halloween bash we always attend, but sadly this year we ended up sitting it out. I've been a bit under the weather and knew it was just in my best interest not to party it up Saturday night. I guess our costumes will be put on a shelf until next year. Unless of course we decide to dress up and pass out candy this Saturday- the verdict is still out on that one.

So not a lot of weekend recapping from me today. No costume party, no Bengals game, what the heck did I do all weekend?? I saw some family, cheered on my fantasy football team and just enjoyed the free time with Jared. I'm determined to get back into a better routine this week and not let the second half of football season suck the life out of me. Meal planning, working out and a blogging schedule are a must!

Before I go- I wanted to my wish my awesome brother-in-law a very Happy Birthday!! He's one of the most fun-loving people I know and I'm thankful to have his as my family and friend. Jared and I love going on adventures with you and Kayla and I know we'll be having fun together for a lifetime :)

Bye Week Rocks

Apparently the new blogging trend is to just post on Monday's and Friday's. Oh, wait... that's just me? ;) Either way- hello! Happy Friday! This week has been a totally weird, but great one for me. Seeing as how it's been weird around here, I figured I'd throw it back to an old favorite link-up of mine that I don't think exists any longer. Dear Friday!

Dear Friday, It's good to see you. Even though I had a day off work this week, it was a long one and I'm happy for another weekend of fun.

Dear Bye Week, You are fantastic. Players get a break from football, I get a break from life. Lots of lounging around has happened this week and not a lot of responsibilities have been taken care of- which I'm totally fine with.

Dear sweet design client, You went above and beyond with your thank-you gift. Completely unnecessary but so incredibly appreciated. You rock.

Dear Coach Jared, I'm so proud of you!! I know those kiddos loved having you coach them and encourage them this season. Watching you with them the past few months has been so fun.

Dear BFF Lacey, YOU'RE GONNA BE A MOM!!! My best friend (and her sister!) has finally announced to the world that she's expecting and I couldn't be more excited for her. Plus, how cute are their announcement pictures? :)

Dear Loft leggings, you are the BEST pair I've ever bought. Worth every penny.

Dear Everyone, I hope you have one awesome weekend! I've got a lot in store and it'll be a jam-packed one for sure but I'm looking forward to every second of it!

Busy, but Perfect

If I were to draft up what a perfect weekend should look like I think the past 3 days would be a pretty accurate description. Football, food and friends. I mean, WHAT could be a better combination? Friday Jared and I got to enjoy a date night at a new favorite spot of ours and then spent some time that evening attempting to pull our Halloween costumes together. The annual party we attend is this Saturday and we are still not ready. Yikes! Anyone just want to mail us a couple costumes on loan? :)

Jared's junior high football league is coming to an end and I was able to watch both the 7th and 8th graders win big on Saturday (but not before hitting up the nearby outlets and scoring big at Loft). It was the perfect, chilly day to watch and cheer them on which was so much fun. Everything is always more fun when you win, right?

From his games we hopped over to a friend's graduation party to celebrate her recent RN degree. Delicious food and the cutest dessert table I've ever seen!

We watched the Buckeyes win later that night with some of our favorite people but the REAL victory came on Sunday when the Bengals won. Again. Making our record 6-0. Last time that happened I was a baby! Every week we win I get more and more emotional about the season. I know, I know it's "just" football- but to me it's not only my favorite sport in the world, it's my career! It means so much to me and makes all the hard work seem worth it. Thank goodness this coming week is our bye though, I could use a stress-free Sunday :)

Happy Monday, everyone!

Thankful this Thursday

Today's post is inspired by my SIL's post yesterday and other bloggers who regularly post about being thankful (Hi, Cari!) This time of year it's easy to start feeling the pressure or stress of upcoming holidays and obligations and how in the world I'll fit everything into my schedule. I know I'm not alone in those feelings; somehow our calendars just continually fill up faster and faster, month after month and at times its overwhelming. But today, I just want to be thankful for many of those things that keep me busy, rather than letting them have a negative effect on me.

I'm thankful for our house. Jared, if you're reading this- stop laughing ;) I know I might complain about how it's old, how we have the world's tiniest kitchen and how I can't wait to move... but I'm still thankful we have a roof over our head and the means to pay for it. We bought this house a little over four years ago and I'm thankful we started our marriage in a home we'll cherish forever. I still remember opening our wedding gifts after our honeymoon and being giddy out of our minds that we were homeowners.

I'm thankful for my health. After an up and down year dealing with an injury, I am so thankful I can go to the gym anytime I want and push myself to be better. I should probably do that a little more often ;)

I'm thankful for warm apple cider. Yes, this deserves it's own line item today.

I'm thankful for friends near and far. My circle might be small, but my circle rocks. It's hard when those busy schedules keep us from each other, but I know they're always just a text, call or ridiculous snapchat away.

I'm thankful that I live in a place with all four seasons. Now sure, winter is my least favorite (who likes to drive in snow and scrape ice off cars?!) but it's still beautiful and always exciting.

I'm thankful for puppies, for doctors and nurses who take care of people every single day, for cute nieces that make me smile, for phone calls with my grandparents, for Disney movies and for a marriage that grows every day. Here's to being more thankful every single day- and not just waiting until Thanksgiving rolls around ;)

A Winning Weekend (Pun Intended)

It's pretty darn amazing that I'm even functioning and blogging today. In case you don't follow me on any form of social media, let me just get something out of the way real quick...

So, yeah- that alone would have made my whole weekend incredible. I shed a few tears of joy when my guys pulled out the win in overtime. Ashamed? Never! Lucky for me, I had a lot of fun before that incredible come-from-behind-victory to round out an amazing few days. A trip to a favorite local farm of ours with some of our favorite people on THE most beautiful fall day ever... that counts for a win, too!
There is zero editing done to this- the sky was REALLY that blue Saturday!!

Our foursome headed out Saturday morning to pick pumpkins, pet the cutest little sun-bathing goats, toss some cornhole and get lost in the world's toughest corn maze. Seriously- we didn't complete the puzzle, we called it a loss after walking a few miles through the corn and coming up short. We're pretty sure their map was wrong- but we're not bitter or anything. I guess I'll just never know who stole the pot of honey! ;)

Now our cute pumpkins are ready to get carved and lit up for some Halloween fun the rest of this month. I think Jared and I are actually going to be nice neighbors and hand out candy- that hasn't always been the case- but this year we're going to. I think... The only reason I really want to is because we have a super cute candy bowl I'd like to use. #priorities

I'm looking forward to a much more low-key work schedule for the next few weeks and hopefully getting back into a routine of life again. Working on my Etsy shop and keeping up with friends. PS- Speaking of friends? If you don't know Kristin yet- today is a REALLY good day to check out her blog :)

What a crazy week this has been. Have I been saying that a lot recently? It feels like I have. It's been a bit of a stressful week in my world. Luckily after this Sunday's game (when my Bengals will advance to 5-0!) I'll get a bit of a break at work and hopefully be able to catch up on every other thing in my life that seems to be a mess right now. I say it all the time but seriously... how do people DO it all?!

Speaking of doing it all- the Pink Ribbon Luncheon that I attended yesterday? Phenomenal. I've went a few times but this might have been my favorite year yet. Robin Roberts is an inspiration for so SO many reasons and it was awesome to hear her speak. The theme was "Paint the Town Pink" and there were dozens of local artists painting there and auctioning off their items for charity. We got to take home little miniature paintings of various Cincinnati landmarks- talk about a cool souvenir!

In other happies... the sunrises and sunsets have been incredible lately. The early mornings are rough after working so many days in a row but at least it's colorful and inviting on my way into work :) I stopped in the middle of the parking lot at Kroger to snap this- it was too beautiful not to capture!

This weekend despite some hours at the office, Jared and I are making time to visit one of our favorite local farms to pick out pumpkins, get lost in corn mazes and just enjoy some gorgeous weather outdoors together. Bring on the fall-ness and the fun! :) Happy weekend everyone!

Happy Thursday, everyone! Linking up (a day late, oops!) with Anne and Jenna for their 'currently' posts. I always love reading and writing these because it's an easy way to catch-up when life's been busy. And we all know- life just flat out gets BUSY sometimes. We are in the thick of football season with my work and with Jared coaching so I've dropped the ball on other things lately. I swear, I dream about football at night. No lie. But I'm CURRENTLY:

Eating: Blah, nothing great to be honest. I always say football season won't get the best of me, but here we are in October and I've fallen on the wagon with meal planning. The long hours and late nights make it difficult, but that shouldn't be an excuse. I've definitely gotta get my act together so Jared and I can eat better and healthier.

Exploring: Possibilities. Can I just be vague and say that? Okay, I'm gonna. ;)

Wearing: Pink! I'm headed to a Pink Ribbon Luncheon with a group of ladies from work for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's a favorite event of mine so I'm looking forward to it. Robin Roberts is speaking at it this year!

Admiring: Lots of fall fashion blogs/Pinterest boards. I am finally adding to my wardrobe little by little and attempting to look a bit more put-together. It's a work in progress, trust me, but I'm trying!

Collecting: Nothing. If anything, I'm getting rid of random collections of things that are just clutter to me now. It's a huge undertaking to simplify a home, gosh- it feels never ending sometimes! But every time a box leaves our house I feel just a little bit better about things. Good riddance, junk!

What are you all up to?! :)

Fall + Football + Weekends = Perfection

This weekend ROCKED. I'm sure there's a more descriptive way to tell you that, but when you say something "rocks" I just feel like it gets my point across pretty quickly. Jared and I had discussed all the various things we wanted to do over the weekend and we accomplished every single one of them. Mostly fun things were on the list, but a couple adult/responsibility things got done too.
We saw The Martian in theaters- SO good. I'm a Matt Damon fan in general, but this movie was pretty great. I didn't read the book so I have nothing to compare it to but the storyline was great and even though it was a long movie it didn't really feel like it to me. Anyone else seen/read it??

Plenty of other fun happened involving board games, movies, shopping and decorating for fall. We just got a Gordman's in our area which I'd never heard of until now. Think TJMaxx/Marshalls kinda stuff (and prices!) but much larger. We found a couple new additions for our fall decor, a couple gifts for family and finally two new throw pillows that didn't cost a fortune. Our house just feels extra cozy now with more fluffy pillows and with all our fall stuff out and on display.

I love our table runner!

And of course any weekend is significantly better when your football team wins. Jared and I watched Ohio State move to 5-0 on Saturday and then the Bengals beat Kansas City to move to 4-0 on Sunday! It was a really good sports weekend in our household. Really, really good. I wore nothing but sports gear all weekend long and I'm not ashamed.

Today marks 8 straight days in the office with another 11 to go before I get a day off (but who's counting?!) so if you noticed the permanent bags under my eyes, you know why. As long as my team keeps winning though? It's all worth it. WHODEY!

Cheers to October

Happy October! To welcome the month Ohio definitely decided to dip into the high 40s overnight and honestly, I'm okay with that. Ohio is a tricky state, forecasting us back up in the 70s this weekend- but I'll take any taste of fall I can get. I'm ashamed to admit I haven't put up any of my fall decorations yet this year. Typically I've got them out by at least mid-September but that month just got away from me somehow.

Jared and I are excited to spend some quality time together despite another football-filled weekend. (Is anyone surprised?) Our schedules have just been so wacky lately there hasn't been a lot of time for the two of us to do much- but that's getting fixed tonight! We're getting back to our Friday night gym-date and coming home to enjoy some homemade chili and a good puzzle and/or movie. But not before we get those decorations up, of course ;)
Of course we're always making memories together, no matter what we're doing and no matter what time of year it is- but fall just always seems extra special to me. Jared and I became friends in the fall of 2007 even though we wouldn't go on a date for months and months after that. We also were engaged at the very end of August in 2010 so the fall always reminds me of those early days of our engagement and how giddy we were about the next phase of life we'd entered.

Some of my favorite memories with Jared have revolved around a backyard fire and warm cider in our hands; a pumpkin patch and a carving party where we laughed hysterically over how terrible our pumpkins looked; wandering corn-mazes for hours with some of our best friends and taking a thousand ridiculous photos and videos; attending Halloween parties and always try to outdo last year's costumes; spending entirely too long in Hobby Lobby picking out fall decorations for our first home together and arguing over who picked out the best smelling candle ;)
So cheers to fall. Cheers to the month of October and the memories that are sure to be made this month. Cheers to a love that continues to evolve and change just like the seasons.
