Making Goals and Making Progress

Happy Monday, Happy August and Happy football-season-starts month! :) Looking ahead at this month scares me just a bit because my planner is completely stuffed to the brim already- how does that happen, by the way?? Even though I know it'll be a very full few weeks, I still enjoy setting goals and bettering myself month after month. Let's take a look at how those July goals went.

1. Read 3 books. Done! One of these days I'll write some books reviews and recommendations on here- but today is not that day. I read some books that were out of the norm for me this month and really enjoyed mixing it up. Onto the next pile of books! ;)

2. Finish the landscaping. Um, nope. Moving on.

3. Meet with a financial planner. Big fail on this one, too. I let the days slip away from me and our limited availability didn't help us either. We still want to meet with a planner, but I will say this: Jared and I rocked our finances in July. Perhaps our friends Sallie & Perkins will be back soon to share some more details.

4. Make a couple new meals. Done and done and done! I really knocked this goal out, I'd say. I discovered the best recipe for making Caesar chicken in the crockpot, made a delicious red pepper chicken dish and thanks to Anne's recommendation made this Thai Chopped Broccoli salad. I also made egg-based breakfast muffins for the freezer for the first time and they are delicious! Kitchen win, for sure.

5. Keep workin' on that fitness! Definitely giving myself a check-plus for this one as well. Jared and I lifted weights together a lot this month and I've also been working really hard to get my steps in and win those fun FitBit challenges ;) I'm doing a second DietBet and working hard every day- who's with me?!

1. Make an extra-large mortgage payment. We've been putting extra money down on our house each month, but would like to really buckle down in August and be able to put a hefty chunk towards it.

2. Work on business venture. A friend approached me about a month ago with a business idea and I'm actively working with her on it. While I can't share all the details yet, it's something I'm really excited about and know I need to focus on in order for it to all work. Hoping to put in a lot of hours in August to really get the ball rolling.

3. Make more time for friends. It's easy to let that full schedule keep me from quality time with friends but I don't want that to be the case. I'm hoping to schedule in some gal-pal time this month and stick to it!

4. Journal more often. Now that I have a blog it's rare for me to pick up a pen and notebook and physically write down my thoughts, but I do miss that aspect of writing. I'm going to try to jot things down in one of my (countless) notebooks more often this month. I know it's good for the soul and the memories will be nice to have one day too.

What are you all hoping to tackle this month?! :)
PS- In case you missed it, Tailgate Tuesday is coming August 11th. Link-up anything and everything football related!

I do those morning egg muffins all the time too - so good and so adaptable! And I saw yesterday that it was the LAST SUNDAY of 2015 without football and I was SO EXCITED. It's almost here!

  13. I'll vote for an S&P update! Although... just being honest. It will probably make me feel bad about the sad state of our savings the last few months. house + baby = no extra money, which is a huge change from our "let's save everything we have for a house" mentality these last few years. Oh well. Different seasons of life, I suppose!

  14. Hey, I consider July a win for you! I'm seriously impressed with the fitness goals you've been meeting! I need to get my butt in gear! I love that you want to make time for physical journaling. That's something I never do, but I think I'd love to start! I could also use some book recommendations, so I'll be keeping an eye out for your post of reviews! Go get August, friend!

  22. You did awesome in July friend. Very proud of you. I was not excited about our landscaping but I showed up to the home store one day, made the guy load me up and got it done. I was so happy after it was done. haha I love that you added friends to your list this month. It's sad how easy it is to let that friend time slip by while we are busy living. I need to work on that too.

  23. I've been eating an egg 'muffin' breakfast for a year now, super simple and healthy and once you cook it you're good for the week! What have you been reading?? I've been quite a book nerd lately. I'd love to make a huge extra payment, we manage about 150-200 extra each month so based on that my 30 year goes down to about 18ish years.
