Fun at the Fair

One of my favorite things to do in the summer is go to as many fairs and festivals as possible. Jared and I always hit up a couple local ones, and maybe even a county fair if we can find the time, but I'd never been to a state fair until this past weekend. You'd think that Ohio's would have been my first one, since I do live here and all but nope- I tore up the Indiana State Fair!
Jared and I got away for the weekend with our brother and sister-in-law to celebrate Kayla's birthday and we spent a good chunk of our Saturday exploring the largest fair I have EVER been to in my life. It was an absolutely gorgeous day- hot, but I was loving it. The sights, the sounds, the smells- yes, even the pig and cow barns. I couldn't get enough of all the cute animals and wondered (more than once!) how I could sneak something cute home with me. We even sat and watched some llamas and alpacas do an obstacle course for awhile and yes, it was awesome.

One of my favorite parts was the Pioneer Farm and Home Show. We got to watch people crafting beautiful things out of wood, churn fresh butter, sample delicious local syrup and watch paper get made. Really makes me long for a simpler time, honest to goodness. We live in such a complicated, often spoiled, time. Someone take my technology and get me a cabin in the woods- seriously!

I liked his sign :)
And of course a fair isn't a fair unless you eat something unhealthy/deep-fried and waste a little money playing games. Jared and Caleb both ate some gross looking doughnut burger and I had some deep-fried cookie dough that was one of the best things I've ever tasted! We also tried our luck at those rigged games- pitching baseball, using fishing poles and throwing some skeeballs. Let's just say between the four of us we only left there with one prize.

We had an absolute blast and it was awesome to get away for the weekend. Life gets busy for everyone and it's not always easy to find a way to spend uninterrupted time with our friends so we soaked in every minute of this weekend. And we were so busy enjoying our time that this it the best "group picture" we got the whole time haha!! :) Happy Monday!

  1. That looks like so much fun! I'll join you in that cabin. Sometimes I definitely wish we could go back to days when life was a lot more simple.

  2. State fairs are always so much fun! And a trip to one definitely wouldn't be complete without something fried! My favorite is deep fried snickers, but the deep fried cookie dough sounds amazing!

  3. So fun! I can't believe you had never been to a state fair before. In Minnesota the state fair is the highlight of the summer! It's a huge deal!! And coming up at the bed of the month :) :) :) glad you were finally able to experience one but I'd have to say MN has the best one and everyone should come.

  14. I tell myself every year that we need to hit up a new fair but this summer it just wasn't in the books for us. We still have time so we'll see! Glad that you guys had a good weekend!!

  15. Sounds like you had such a great weekend! I love going to fairs and festivals. I love the smells, the food, the games, the ambiance of the whole day. My festival is a wine and cheese one that happens near me, I love tasting all the wines and wasting money on games and not winning a prize because I am so awful at fair games!

  17. Yay! I'm so glad you loved Indy and the State Fair! I've been every year since I moved here (and I used to live walking distance from it)! I haven't been to the Ohio State Fair either, but that's on my list. I think I'll be going to the fair next week sometime, hopefully on discount Tuesday! It's amazing how different and huge a state fair is than a county fair, isn't it?

  22. Aww, looks like so much fun! I love fairs--but I've also only ever been to one state fair, which was the Texas state fair, so a pretty huge one! They are a fun cultural tradition for America!

  24. I love fairs and let's just say they're one thing the Midwest does right. After living in California for nearly 4 years and now living in Ohio we were pumped about the fair. You should try go to the OH State Fair some year. I took Dominick last week and he had the BEST time (although he is only two)!

  25. How awesome! Philadelphia doesn't have fairs and it makes me so sad. I have gone to a county fair in Maryland and it was a blast!

  26. I'm so glad y'all got to enjoy this weekend together. I so wish I lived somewhere fun that had fairs!!! I love going to them and riding all the rides. This one looked extra fun with that exhibit. What a perfect way to spend the weekend.

  28. How FUN! I have been seeing so many posts on blogs and Instagram about fair fun and realized that we haven't taken Mia. But I haven't even heard of any here in Arizona. It must be too dang hot for anyone to bother putting a fair together. So here's hoping they do fairs in January here, ha ha!
