At Least the Decorations Are Pretty

The morning of my 10-year reunion I found (and plucked!) a lone, gray hair. I should have taken that as a sign for how the rest of the day would go. Goodness. It was rough, okay? A lot of things just didn't go right. Lesson learned- I cannot and will not take on another reunion again. The time, money and effort just aren't worth it- especially when I know there are other people who would enjoy planning it more than I would. It's hard, because I do enjoy throwing a good party, but high school reunions are just different. Hopefully a committee will form for any future get-togethers so the responsibility can be divided up and I will happily be in attendance, but not in charge.

I'll spare you the nitty-gritty details of what all went wrong and instead show off our decorations. The decorations turned out great and everyone likes to see pretty stuff anyway. Just believe me when I say behind the scenes it was not even close to pretty. We didn't need a ton of decor, but enough to make it look inviting with our school colors. I made trivia cards to put out on the tables as an ice-breaker of sorts; something for people to look and chat about as everyone was still arriving. They were a big hit and everyone had some good laughs over them.

I also wanted to get a custom banner that we'd be able to use for years to come at future events/reunions. I searched high and low for this and purchased from BananaLala on Etsy. Again- I highly recommend them! Anna and Mikaelah are sisters from Indiana and were great to work with on this. I am absolutely obsessed with the quality and cuteness of our banner. We got compliments on the banner all night and it made for a cute photo-opp too!

There are tons of cute things in their shop but like my order, they will customize anything you want AND because they are so awesome, you can get 20% off one item now through July 17th with coupon code SUMMER20. Be sure to check out their Facebook page as well! :)

The final highlight of the night? These DELICIOUS cakepops made by a local gal who does them out of her house. If anyone in the Cincinnati are needs affordable treats I will be happy to pass along her contact information. They were a big hit and I absolutely snagged a few extra to take home with me ;)

Thankfully, amid the chaos I had my main man AND my bestie there alongside me. We survived the class reunion and I couldn't be more grateful that I had those two with me. Sidenote- Lacey and I's husbands were refusing photos that night, but I promise they were there!

It's over, and I think the people that were there had fun, and that's what really matters. Maybe a dozen things went wrong, but if the crowd had a good time that's honestly all we should care about. Whew- I'm breathing a sigh of relief right about now.  Cheers to finally feeling stress-free and cheers to a low-key week/weekend ahead!

  3. We had 7 girls working on our 20 year reunion in March and it didn't look half as good as yours. The facility rented was in a mini storage place if that tells you anything. :)

  6. It looks great, and is it like with a wedding, where the only people who know what went wrong were the people who planned it? Either way, I'm glad the stress is off of you!

How many people did you graduate with? I'm always curious.

  8. As much as I like party planning myself, I don't think I'd want to take on that big of an event. Sorry to hear things went wrong but yes the decorations were pretty :)

  12. The decorations looked great! Did you have to pay for that out of pocket or was there some sort of fund for it?

Also, you should totally do a post on everything that went wrong! It would be a hoot (for us, maybe not for you). Sorry you had to deal with that though.

Loving your new layout and design on the blog. How have I missed it??

  15. I honestly can't believe you planned that all yourself. I would NOT want that job. Bummer things went wrong, but seriously you did awesome on the decorations! Such a neat idea for trivia cards! That actually gives me an idea for something I'm planning....

  17. Everything looks great! I cant imagine the stress of planning a class reunion, no thanks!!! I didn't go to mine.I graduated with 1,000 people and ummm maybe remained friends with 2 of them after HS...but I admire those who remained close. I love the trivia cards you made, so thoughtful and fun! I hope you relax this weekend, you deserve it!

  20. I know you said things didn't exactly work out the way you hoped, but you should be super proud of planning and executing that! I'm dreading doing it myself for next summer and I'll take all the advice you can muster. Your decorations were seriously precious - I love that you laid out 2005 trivia. Such a great idea. I don't blame you one bit, though, for wanting to pass the baton on for the next one...

  22. Aye I can only imagine how planning a high school reunion would be…how many were in your graduating class? I think you'll get some good karma for taking on that task and that the people there had a good time! The decorations do look great and it was funny to see the hit movies/songs in 2005! That doesn't seem like it was 10 years AT ALL!

  23. I know how hard you worked on this reunion and I am so sad that it wasn't the raging success you were hoping for and deserved - however, everything looked GREAT! And I'm super glad you had Lacey there and got to bring home some cake pops.

  25. That banner is adorable! And what a great idea to get something that can be used at future renuions and events.

  26. On the bright side it is all over! Those cake pops look great! Reunions can be so tough! We had a 15 year and very few people showed up. Some how because I contacted a few people they thought I was the one planning and held it against me. So stupid! I have a feeling since most people on facebook and can keep up with classmates through there we won't have many reunions moving forward. Or they will just group us into the all BHS reunion that they try to have every year.

  27. The decor looked awesome - great job!

My reunion is still 6 weeks away - the committee nominated me and my best friend to be in charge of the drinking games. I guess that goes to show what they remember about us from high school! haha
