It's Race Week!

Well, it's race week. It's officially RACE WEEK. It's the week I'm going to run 13.1 miles. Hold me, please. Someone, anyone. I'm freaking out just a little bit if you can't already tell. I get serious nerves before a race. Doesn't matter if it's a 5k or a half-marathon, I totally stress leading up to the day of the event. How do you "real" runners do it all the time? I'd be a basket case if I raced regularly. Or maybe I'd just get used to it and I wouldn't be... Hm.

The point is- the race is all I can honestly think about at this point. It's crazy how much of a toll training for a half-marathon really takes on your body. The amount of miles I've run the past couple of months is pretty substantial. It's a huge time commitment to train for a race, and even though I stuck to our training plan pretty well, I still feel a bit behind. At this point I guess I just cross my fingers and hope to finish injury free.

I don't want to bore my non-runner people, but I did have someone ask me recently what my running playlist looks like so I thought that would be fun to share today. Plus, I really would LOVE a few new suggestions so I can add some variety to my playlist for this coming weekend. Running for 2.5+ hours (because yes- it will take me that long) means I need a lot of stuff to keep me company along the way.

You'll see I like a weird mix of stuff. Here are some current favorite tunes I run to:

1. Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man
A nice slow song that I like to sing along to while I get warmed up.

2. Taylor Swift - Shake it Off
This song puts a little pep in my step and really gets me into the groove.

3. Miley Cyrus - Someone Else
 Whatever, don't judge me.

4. MKTO - Classic
Any song that gives Michael Jackson a shout-out is a winner for me ;)

5. Katy Perry - Dark Horse
Because Katy can do no wrong.

6. Rascal Flatts - Payback
Not many people like to run to country but when this song comes on I can really pick up the pace.

7. DJ Snake + Lil Jon - Turn Down for What
Most repetitive song ever, I know- but I can't help it, it's a keeper.

8. Ellie Goulding - Anything Could Happen
At this point, there are no truer words. I could pass out and die from running OR I might actually be able
to finish the race ;)

9. Katy Perry - Roar
 See #5

10. 4 Non Blondes - What's Up
I'll be honest, I have no clue how this ended up on my playlist but it's never leaving!

11. Destiny's Child - Survivor
Just throwing it back to 2001 and reminding myself that I can.do.anything.

12. Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle
  Cincinnati Bengals. Whodey. Enough said.

 13. Kelly Clarkson - Catch my Breath
Kelly basically gets me through those last minutes- otherwise I literally would not have any breath to catch.

So let's hear it- what should I add onto my iPod for race day??

  2. Good luck!! Even though you don't need any luck because you're so prepared! You're going to kill it.

Freddie goes on these loooong bike rides and his playlist is pretty much all country---cracks me up. And yes, yes, yes to #10--What's Up is my running jam.

  6. Great playlist! I've added "Heartbeat Song" by Kelly Clarkson. I also love "Ready or Not" by Britt Nicole feat. Lecrae, but actually anything from her "Gold" album is great.

  7. Good luck! I know you'll do great! NO suggestions on songs to run to as I run without anything, strange I know, but I found that when I run with music I am more aware of time...

  8. Girl, you are gonna kill this race! So excited for you!
I'm loving your list! I always love to get ideas from others to add to my play list! A little AC/DC might be perfect to add to your playlist. Have you seen the new Planes movie (Disney, of course!) where they are firefighters! When they crank AC/DC it totally gets my adrenaline pumping, ha HA!

  9. YAY I can't believe it's almost here! I get crazy race nerves too, especially when it's been a while. My last race was January 1 - that's a long gap for me!
My running playlists are all over the place...I've really been feeling Eminem lately, haha! I like that he talks a lot about pushing himself and overcoming things because let's be real, who doesn't need to feel that way when they're running?!

  10. Good luck! I'm sure you'll kill it! I love some Eminem and Ludacris for running. Nothing gets me pumped up like pretending I'm a bad-ass who listens to hardcore rap. Ha! I also love 80's hair bands like Guns n' Roses, and Meghan Trainor & Taylor Swift. Yup, my playlist is pretty diverse!

  11. You should put Uptown Funk to get you dancing a bit and then Happy as your ending because you'll be super happy once you're done with the race :)

  12. Good luck on the race!! You got this, girl :) Your playlist looks great...I hear you on Katy Perry!! I like running to some Sara Bareilles, too. Brave and Fairytale are two of my faves.

  14. Wooo! Don't worry; however undertrained you are, I promise you I'm less prepared. My shoes have been trying to kill me (or at least break my legs) this whole training cycle so.. we'll see how this goes! Anyway I love your playlist! I listen to podcasts while I run now but when I used to run to tunes I had some of these on my playlists. And I love running to country! Sometimes it just has the perfect beat :)

  15. Shit. It's race week. I promise I am less prepared than both you and Alyssa... combined. Haha!
I don't really listen to music when I run, so I am not helpful at all!

  16. Turn on pandora this week and put on the Ace of Base channel and you will find some oldie but goodies on there to run too!

  21. Good luck!! No matter how many times I race, I'm still a nervous wreck the morning of! I think being nervous is a good thing though--it means you're passionate about what you're doing. :) You're going to kill it!! :)

  22. I'm assuming you're doing the heart half! I'm doing it too and I'll definitely be slow! I took a little too much time off after my race in February!

Here are some of my favorite running songs! I find other good ones by looking at "Workout Remix Factory" on spotify! Good Luck!

We Are Tonight - Billy Currington
    Dust - Eli Young Band
    LA Love - Fergie
Outside - Calvin Harris (really anything by Calvin Harris)
This Is How We Do - Katy Perry (she really can do no wrong)
Shut Up And Dance - Walk The Moon
Run The World (Girls) - Beyonce
Let It Go - Frozen (because, I'm 5 years old)

  23. I love reading other people's playlists! I suggest "Sugar" by Maroon 5 and "Octahate" by Ryn Weaver! I love both of those songs and they're on my brisk walk playlist. ;) I know you're going to dominate your half! I'll be thinking of you and can't wait to hear about it!

  24. You got this! I'm proud of you and I'm rooting for you!

  25. That is a great playlist! Good luck! Have fun!

  26. Is it the Heart Mini? I've been wanting to do that one... and you're going to do great at it! Especially with that playlist - tons of those are on mine, like the T. Swift, Katy Perry (Roar of course! Also on my labor & delivery playlist, ha!), and MKTO. My latest adds that I'm loving are Kelly Clarkson's Heartbeat Song and Ella Henderson's Ghost. It's funny what songs can just get you through some miles - last time I did a half marathon it was a One Direction song on repeat for like 20 minutes. You do what you have to :) Have fun!!

  27. You are going to do great!! I'm not a runner but I still love that playlist! Might have to copy it and just play it while I drive...!

  28. I love these songs. I tend to listen to the same songs so much that i get bored with them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love MKTO! I listen to their whole cd sometimes on my runs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Yes! I am so excited to hear about how everything goes! Basically my entire playlist is county. It's the best! I also have about 4 Train songs. I just love their beats!

  31. First off, I'm SUPER jealous about all of my favourite bloggers meeting up for this race - I can't wait to see all the pictures and read everyone's recaps!

Roar and Survivor are on my running playlist too, mixed in there with a whole lot of rap music - completely different than my regular music which consists of 99% country. There's just something about rap music that makes me run faster!
