Tuesday Talk

December was so crazy. I didn't even know what day it was most of the time. It was the longest and shortest month of my life, if that is somehow at all possible. So much chaos, so much going on, so much running around...  I don't know how I survived it all! Someone remind me next holiday season to slow it down and make less plans.

I'm not sure if I'll do goals each and every month like I did in 2014, but for the start of the year I figured I would post some and we'll see where things go from there. January is always the most calm month of the year for me (sadly, because the Bengals season always ends here) so I need to take advantage of the extra time and enjoy it!

In January I hope to:
- Finish the book I'm writing. Yes, I should have finished this long ago... that's besides the point.

- Read 3 books. I read 16 books last year which was a lot for me!

- Complete the first few weeks of my training plan. Have I mentioned I've got a 1/2 marathon coming up in March??

- Cross at least 1 thing off my 30 before 30 list. Now to just decide which ones to work on.

- Give up all pop/energy drinks. Why is this so difficult? I know it's horrible for me.

- Send some snail mail to friends/family. Because it's sad when the holiday cards stop coming in.

- Work on my photobooks. A never ending to-do, I know, but I made huge progress on them last year!

- Try 2 new recipes. It's winter and that means more time to experiment in the kitchen.

Short and sweet post today. I know goal posts aren't always the most interesting, but I do enjoy having them on here to look back on month after month, year after year. So now here's where you all come in. What's the best book you've read recently and/or tell me a favorite/new recipe I should try :)

Linking up with some sweet friends at their brand new link-up today! Check it out :)

  2. I made a new recipe the other day that was delicious! (vegan) Cream of Tomato soup from oh she glows. It's more like a bisque... and so delicious you'd never believe it was vegan! Perfect for a cold and snowy day.

  3. I've come to the conclusion that I haven't made my photo books because our internet speed isn't fast enough. It seriously takes forEVER to upload even one wedding photo! Boo. Maybe one evening or Saturday I'll take my computer to Starbucks and get the quick speed ;) go you! I know you'll get a lot of these done.

  5. Yay for starting your training plan!!! I'm giving up soda this year. I rarely ever drink it anyway except at the movies or maybe at a restaurant every now and then but…no more. You can do it!

  6. I love your goals, especially reading more and trying new recipes. What are your fave types of books? I love reading classics so I'd suggest you read The Wizard of Oz, The Hobbit, Narnia, etc. They're all fun and easy reads which makes them winners for me :) Good luck with giving up pop too! That will be tough!!! Thank you so much for supporting our new link up! We're so glad you joined us - we love your blog...even though we have opposing football teams! ;) -Jess www.sweetlittleonesblog.com / sweetlittleonesblog@gmail.com

P.S. Sorry about your Bengals...but Ohio State is in the title game next week!

  7. Love your goals! I did some New Year goals today, but I really like the idea of monthly goals! I might need to start that this year!

  8. I think you have a perfect list! I am trying to give up diet sodas again too and it is SO HARD! I swear it is all mental. I know I dont NEED them!!!! And I think sending snail mail randomly is just the best!

  10. I have a love/hate relationship with December and January. December is always so fun with all the festivities, but it's so crazy and goes too quickly. Then January is relaxing, but almost a little depressing when there's nothing on the horizon to celebrate. Except this year I'm in a wedding on Feb 7th, so we have bridal showers and bachelorette parties this month!

We made Creamy Lentil Soup from Skinny Taste last night due to the cold. We've made it before too - it's so good that it is worth a spot in the recipe rotation! Paired with a side salad or some crusty bread - so yummy! http://www.skinnytaste.com/2014/11/creamy-lentil-soup.html

  17. Great goals! Good luck with all of them. One of mine is to read more as well. I recently read Eyes Wide Open by Andrew Gross. It was really good. A psychological thriller. Here's my review - http://alhadventures.blogspot.com/2015/01/book-review-eyes-wide-open.html

  18. Dude, that's exciting if you finish your book! I have started a bunch only to be foiled after about 10,000 words or so. I'm better at editing stories than writing them :) One of our favorite new recipes is this chili recipe my brother created. It's seriously one of the best chilis we've ever had!

  19. You and I and our photo books! Maybe 2015 will be the year we both catch up! Also, I want to hear more about this book you're writing! And if you're looking for a good book recommendation, Wild by Cheryl Strayed is good. Definitely different than what I normally read, but a good read.

  20. Looks like some good goals. I do an annual photo book each year as a gift to friends/family and it always feels good to finish them. The 2015 one will be a little more crazy for me as I want to go bigger. And I have a friend who is a Bengals fan, which is rare in New York. I haven't talked to him to see how he's feeling today, but of course I'm a Colts fan... so I wouldn't want to make it look like I am rubbing it in. :)

  21. I'm a weirdo and I actually love goal blog posts. They inspire me and give me ideas of things to work on in my life...except for the soda thing. That's never going to happen for me. You're going to crush those goals, by the way. I just made crock pot potato soup this morning, so I'll let you know if the recipe is a keeper! As far as reading goes, I highly suggest Mindy Kaling's book if you like The Office. She's great.

  22. I love that I've seen a couple of goals about sending snail mail. It's something I've been trying to work on and continue in the future. I sent more Christmas cards this year than usual and it felt really nice, so I want to mail out more birthday and thank-you and thinking-of-you cards just as a general practice from here on out. Anyway. Good luck with your goals!!

  25. I need to mark some things off my list also and I definitely need to finish the never ending photobooks for my classroom. Can you just do mine while you are doing yours? I am on day 6 with no pop/soda/dr.pepper. I feel amazing. You can totally do it friend.

  26. Great goals!! One of mine is to give up cokes as well!! I have never really like energy drinks (Monster, Red Bull, etc.) but I did find something to help with that. I still need caffeine, because I just can't handle those awful headaches the first week without it (I'm a baby lol) but I did find these "energy" drinks from Walmart. I really don't feel energized from them, but love the flavors. You mix them with your water. 1 pack is 10 calories and you are still getting a full cup of water, which is one of my goals, too, drink more water! There are 10 packs per box and the best thing is, it has caffeine AND they are $1 a box (Walmart brand)!!!! There are a lot of flavors, too! I drink one each morning, my favorite is Blueberry Acai.

  27. I love this list. I'm always reading. Mostly YA. I'm going to try to break out of the YA box this year. Happy New Year!

  28. I like goal posts - both blog & football ones. Tee hee! Anywho, I really have to get mine done I have my reminder sitting in my inbox to do so.

Giving up pop?! Eeek! That would be hard! Good luck with that & all your other monthly goals. :)
