A New Year

Happy New Year, friends! I have been away and mostly unplugged for a few days and it has felt fantastic. I got the very rare time off last week and loved every minute of it. Jared and I were lazy most of those days, but we also made time to get all our Christmas stuff down and packed away. As much as I love getting all of that out for the holidays, I equally love boxing it back up at the start of the new year. Today you're getting a journal-style post because honestly, if I didn't?! I don't think I could remember what day we did what over the extra long weekend. Time tends to run together when you're not going into the office, apparently. Who knew?! ;)

12/31/14: New Year's Eve. Jared and I both worked but our offices closed down early. We didn't make any plans this year because of my ever-changing work schedule and we weren't sure I'd even be off NYDay so it was a repeat of last year. Just the two of us in our comfiest clothes saying goodbye to 2014. We put a frozen lasagna in the oven, I made a delicious cheeseball and banana bread for later and we spent the evening starting on a new puzzle and watching some fun shows on TV before the ball dropped.
1/1/15: New Year's Day. We did our traditional Benihana dinner with my parents. We normally do this the night before but again, because of my lovely work schedule things were a little last minute this year. We didn't mind though... anytime I get a hibachi meal I'm a happy gal ;) This tradition has been going on for more than 20 years now with my family and I look forward to it every time!

1/2/15: A Day of Nothing. Jared had to work this day but I was off. It was the perfect mix of watching chick flicks but also continuing to restore order to our house in the forms of laundry and cleaning.

1/3/15: Shopping & Game Night. Another day with no plans?! I shouldn't let myself get used to this!! We slept in and then ventured out to do a little post-holiday shopping. Jared got himself a new laptop that he desperately needed (his one from college was barely hanging on) and I got a couple cold-weather running gear items. That night we met up with all our favorite people to celebrate one of our friend's birthday with food and an intense game of The Office Clue

1/4/15: The Brokenheart. My Bengals lost in the first round of the playoffs for the FOURTH year in a row. It's heartbreaking, really. To get so close every year just to fall apart. I'm not dwelling on that game and I really don't want any "Go Colts" comments- please! I can't handle it right now, I'm too fragile! Instead I'll focus on the fun I had with my favorite people pre-game when all was still right in the world ;)
Did I catch everyone up now?? :) I'm excited about what's to come in 2015 both in life and in bloglife. Cheers to the new year! Now that football season is officially over (boo) I feel like I can get on with life and goals and other things that are definitely more important.

  3. I was so sad for you, friend. Such a bummer, just such a bummer!

Glad you had a good few days before the game, though. Love your hibachi tradition!

  4. My husband and I were cheering for them, but unfortunately both teams we were cheering for yesterday lost!
I'm a big Redskins fan so that Dallas win was just gross. Happy New Year!

    1. Ugh! I never want to see Dallas win, so I can feel your pain on that one, too. Well, at least baseball is around the corner, right?! ;)

  5. Your NYE sounds like mine and it was lovely! I would rather not go out that day if at all possible. Too much crazy. Call me old lady!

I feel you on the football pain this morning. Both my teams lost this weekend too. Sigh. Hope you have a great week!

  6. That sounds like a perfect NYE to be honest ha. My friend & I went out to a bar in downtown Minneapolis. It was the first & last time I'll ever be doing that. I'm too stinkin old to be dealing with all of that. Next year I'm voting something low key or somewhere warm. Sorry to hear about your Bengals!

  7. I know how heartbreaking yesterday was. Coach Lewis is a fantastic coach, and I hope he stays next year.

We stayed in for New Year's as well...only someone wanted to leave at 10..but I made him stay til 11...what a sleepy head! hehe... i'm gonna have to buy that Mermaid puzzle!

  9. What a heart breaker! don't worry - as many times as Indy has knocked my beloved Chiefs out of the playoffs I'd never say Go Colts! Here's to making 2015 the best year yet!

  10. I'm not gonna lie, your guys' cosy NYE evening looks fabuloussss. Sounds like you had a great and relaxing start to the year, minus your Bengals losing. :( Sorry, girl! I know what a bummer that is.

Happy New Year! Hope it only goes up from here. XO

  11. Loved spending so much time with you this weekend! ;) I'm feeling the same way. No sense in dwelling on a crappy loss when we have all kinds of fun in the new year to look forward too!!

  14. My heart broke for you during that game (I was cheering for the Bengals). I didn't want the Panthers to win or the Cowboys.

I actually went to some friends' house for NYE like we do every year.

Our Lions blew it yesterday...not surprised, though. ;)

  17. We had a super low key NYE as well! It was great! I love the tradition you have with your parents! I want to do it!!! Sorry to hear about the Bengals :( On the bright side, maybe a little less stress at work? :)

  18. Sounds like you had a very relaxing NYE!! Sometimes the low key nights in are the BEST! Glad you got some down time in before the game... and I must admit that I was super upset that the Bengals lost. They were my #2 team this year (I am first and foremost a Giants fan... and we were terrible this year), so I was bummed to see that they didn't make it farther... now I am at a loss for who to cheer for!! Hope you enjoy life not being as crazy now that football season is over!!

  21. Sorry your team didn't win, however don't worry I'm not going to cheer for the other team, ha! I know you work hard all year for the Bengals but now you semi get a break. We went to a bowl game while in Nashville and it was awesome to enjoy the game, not really caring who won. I'll blog about that soon! :)

  22. all i can think about is the frozen lasagna. seriously that is my fave. yum.

  23. Ugh. I also don't want to talk about the game, BUT I was there, too! I wish we had seen each other! Charlie Brown is the perfect way to spend NYE, by the way.

  24. While I enjoyed being with friends on NYE, I would have totally enjoyed a night on the couch too! Maybe next year :P Glad you could get some time away from the office and with your family this holiday season!! Happy 2015 and see you in a few months!!! :D

  28. You deserve the days off work! Sounds like you made the most of it! Next time you make a trip to Indy let me know-maybe we can meet for dinner!

  29. Honestly, that's my kind of New Year's Eve. Low-key and calm. It's much easier that way. No matter team allegiance, I'm jealous you were at the game Sunday. Result aside, it looks like fun to be there.
