Imagination Has No Age

Yesterday was my half-birthday making me officially 27.5 years old. I jokingly told Jared we had to celebrate such a milestone (really I was just hoping he'd treat me to Chipotle). He replied with, "Well, of course we have to celebrate. Starting tomorrow you are now closer to 30 than you are to 25."

WHAT?! Closer to 30?! What is it about that number that sounds so terrifying sometimes? Just the initial thought of being "close" to 30 was weird. Back when I was a teenager, maybe even twenty, 30 sounded so old to me, like 30 means you're an adult and boring and life's about over. But now? 30 kinda' sounds fun. I'm 27.5 and have never felt better! I can tell you this, I'm no where close to old. I love the statement that age is just a state of mind and that you're only as old as you feel. I feel young, very young! Jared's comment got me thinking about all the things I'm NOT too old for:

- Watching animated Disney/Pixar movies regularly. With our movie collection you'd think we had kids or ran a daycare or something- but no, I just love them!

- Or watching ridiculous YouTube videos and getting sucked in for hours watching the dumbest things. I should be embarrassed at how late I've stayed up doing this, but I'm not!

- Eating any form of a holiday Reese cup. Pumpkins, Christmas trees, Easter eggs... you name it, if I see one while I'm out I'm going to grab a few. They are more fun to eat, I swear.

- Speaking of Christmas, I don't know about you- but "Santa" still delivers one gift to me on Christmas morning each year. He always seems to know exactly what Jared and I would want, but I'm always still surprised ;)

- Kiddy rides at an amusement park. I love a good rollercoaster, sure, but there's just something I still love about getting on the slow-moving train ride or the swing carousel.

- Cleaning my house to any random boy band Pandora station. When Jared's gone, you better believe those jams are cranked up and I sing and dance right along with every 90s song I can.

- Eating cereal for dinner. Hey, sometimes it happens.

- You know what else happens? Having $1 lunchable for your work lunch when you forgot to pack anything and running into Target is your closest/cheapest option.

- Making ridiculous videos on your computer. Lip-syncing, karaoke, dance parties- you name it, they're on my computer. Life is way too short to not act a little silly, don't you think?

- Taking pictures and/or giving high-fives to mascots and characters. Theme parks, high school sporting events, festivals- I don't care! I'm not too cool or too old to enjoy a hug from someone in a furry suit!

- Dressing up for Halloween. It's not just for the kids- everyone should participate! I love an excuse to put together a costume every year and just have fun!

So how old do I feel? I'm not sure, but at this point I don't care! And because a blog post isn't complete without a good quote/picture, I'll leave you with one of my favorites :)

  4. Someone once made fun of me at work for eating a pizza lunchable...I just gave them that look like, get away from me. ;) love that we are all just kids at heart!

  5. Age is but a number for sure. I have always feared getting "older" but I've learned with each passing birthday that life just continues to get better. I feel accomplished, happy, and excited for what is in store. Love this post friend. I love how much you enjoy all the good things. I am with you on the kiddie roller coasters and especially the train. Have a great Tuesday.

  6. Walt knows what's up---just like you do,too! I always thought about certain ages as being so "old" and as I hit those ages I realize I still feel 10 or 14 or 17 or even younger some days...

  8. I can relate on so many of those things! As a fellow Disney lover I believe that age is a number and there is nothing wrong with being young at heart! Love your positive perspective on 30 :) I definitely agree!

  10. It's kind of embarrassing how much I still eat pizza lunchables. Sometimes you just need a quick lunch!

  11. Sleeping Beauty was re-released on Oct 7, my bday, and that was one of my best presents!

I know we kinda talked about Disney trips the other day but I'm going to be honest, I think I'm going to wait awhile. Sounds like they are going through a lot of changes down there that aren't running so smoothly at the moment.

  12. Aww, I love the Walt Disney quote! So true! I totally crank up the N'Sync Pandora when I'm cleaning and Adam's not there! And the kiddie rides! (Goofy's Barnstormer!) And I love dressing up for Halloween! And I'm 31. ;)

  13. Young at heart is the best age out there!

  14. I always thought that 30 seemed SO OLD when I was younger but the closer I get to it I realize how ridiculous I was. I don't feel like an almost 30 year old at all - most of the time I feel like I just finished high school! I agree with everything on your list - especially with dressing up for Halloween!

  15. I felt the same way about 30, until I got there. It really wasn't so bad. There are a lot of pressures that come with 30 - adult job, having kids, etc. I did a few, and ignored the rest. I will always be a kid at heart :)
Depends on the day if I feel 12, 21, 35 or 80! lol!

  16. I always love people who refuse to "grow up" as they get older. Nobody wants to be a serious, grumpy, boring old person, we want to have fun!!!

  17. Amen, sister! I've been feeling a little older lately because of random aches, pains, and health problems, but I know I'm still young! I'm guilty of getting sucked down the YouTube wormhole from time to time. It's just so addicting. I also love that you eat lunchables still. I don't, but it's not a bad idea. ;)

  18. This is why we are friends. Our movie collection is probably very similar to yours! And cereal for dinner and lunchables. Yes please. Haha.

  20. I am 31 and I still do all of those things you mentioned! I still don't feel like "an adult" most days and I am perfectly fine with that. Maybe when I turn 40. Because, you know....40 is old. ;)

  21. A very merry unbirthday to you! I am right there with you: gushy about the holidays, obsessed with Disney, and I've definitely bought a few reeses pumpkins. You (and I) are definitely nowhere close to old. And, here's the real question: did you get your Chipotle?!

  22. As someone who just ate a bowl of honey nut cheerios for dinner AND has a boyband station (or three) on her Pandora, I think getting closer to thirty just gets more fun!

  23. Happy half birthday!! What a great day October 20th is! :P My grandma used to celebrate our half birthday when we were little but somehow Peter wasn't as easily convinced…:P
I love cereal for dinner - I have multiple bowls! Disney movies just make you feel good! Can't wait to see what you dress up as this halloween!

  24. Happy Half Birthday - definitely a reason to celebrate! :) I hope you got some Chipotle! And, I agree with all of your statements...Disney, Reese cups, Halloween...you're never too old!! :)

  25. You are only as old as you feel or act. Act 25 and not 27 1/2 and enjoy every single minute of it.

  26. I totally agree with this list! We usually do a family movie on Sunday nights, and I'm so glad for the awesome Disney/Pixar movies. And a big yes for the holiday shaped treats. They really are so much better!

  27. This post is awesome. 30 uses to sound so old to me too. Now that I've passed that milestone I feel like I just better :)

  28. Woo hoo! Happy half birthday!! :) Matthew and I watch goofy YouTube videos all the time, it's pretty Entertaining lol. Lunchables are my favorite!! And yes, so much cheaper than eating out!!

  29. On my 27th birthday (last July) my little sister called me and asked how it felt to be closer to 30 than 25. It made me laugh. I think it helps that the majority of our friends are the same age or a little bit older than us so 30 doesn't seem as "scary" and "old" as it once did. I'm with you on loving Disney movies and cleaning while jamming out to boybands! :)

By the way... Hi! I stumbled across your blog from Allison's (Nestful of Love).

  30. Now, being 30, I can tell you, it's not old. Yes, as a kid it seemed old, but it's not. I still feel like I act the same, and most days, even look the same as my younger self. You're absolutely right - you're never too old for those things you listed. I refuse to ever take myself too seriously, because life is too damn short! Happy belated half birthday!
