August Goals

When you think of summer you often think of being extra-lazy, spending your days by the pool, going to every fun event you can find and generally not being productive in other areas of your life. However, since I'm weird and don't like to do anything the "normal" way I've apparently taken the summer months to really tackle quite a few goals and to-do's. Let's take a look at how I did on July's goals. (By the way, I'm stealing my friend Carolyn's format of goals. Red = fail, green = success!)

1. Completely pay off our 2nd to last loan. You guys, we missed this one by like... a hair. I'm serious. We'll be finishing up the last payment on this loan THIS WEEK, so we definitely made progress on it but didn't quite get there. More details to come from Sallie & Perkins next week.

2. Get after it in the gym. I am giving myself major props on this one. I got in at least 3 workouts a week and made them really count too. The workouts kicked my butt and I loved every second of sweating it out in the gym and while pounding the pavement too.

3. Keep chugging away at that book of mine. I'm giving myself a 'green' for this one, but I know I definitely need to chug a little faster this coming month. I wrote about 5,000 words this month which is still great, but I'd like to set aside more time to focus and write creatively instead of always for the blog. It's hard to balance!

4. Actually have a garage sale! Fail. July, you just got entirely too busy. Our calendar filled up faster than anything... we definitely crammed WAY too much into July so the garage sale just didn't happen.

And now on to...

1. Do a day of freezer cooking. I've done bulk/freezer cooking a few times now and it's always SUCH a time-saver. The next few months are about to be very busy for Jared and I so the more meals I can have prepped, the less time we have to spend cooking and cleaning during the week. Our time together already feels so limited (Boo, jobs!) so I know this will help!

2. Complete a 30 day fitness challenge. I'm a couple days behind, but I'm planning to catch up so I can finish this month. While I plan to keep up with my normal workouts, I thought it would be fun to do an every day challenge- so even on those days I don't get a "real" workout in, I'm doing something. There are SO many out there but I'm giving this one a try as I have no upper body strength. And no, I will not be doing the one-arm variation like this girl!

3. Go the entire month without drinking pop. This habit has dramatically improved in the past year but I still need help. We don't buy pop/keep it in the house, but anytime there is a cold Mountain Dew at a party or work event, it's way too easy for me to grab one. I'm hoping if I can go an entire month I can completely break the nasty habit.

4. Write 10,000 words in my book. Bigggg goal. Huuuuge goal... and it's scary just to type that, but I'm ready to do big things! I need to stay on track if I want to finish this book up in 2014. And I do, ohh, I do!

5. Cross off at least one thing on our passport. If you missed it, I made Jared a local passport of dates for us and we haven't done nearly enough since I gave it to him back in May for our anniversary. I'm excited to try something new together this month, whatever it ends up being!

6. Finally have that garage sale. We've rescheduled it about a dozen times. Let's see if we can make it happen in August ;)

What's on your to-do list this month? Is there a monthly goals link up out there somewhere? I love seeing what's on everyone else's goal list. ***Update, found a link up here!

  1. Awesome work in July! You're so busy, yet you still find time for yourself. Impressive!

As for August, I'm positive you're going to rock it! I can't wait to see how you do on the push up challenge. I JUST started attempting push ups not on my knees and it is SO hard. I should probably try this one too....

And the no soda thing. DO IT. I did it back in the Spring and when I finally had a soda for the first time the next month, it made my stomach hurt. Your body will love you for nixing that from your diet!

Now that we have 2nd baby arriving in less than 5 months I have to clean out our Spare/junk room for her. & I have been freaking out at all the JUNK we have! Lord!

  5. You did great with your goals in July friend. I am sure there is lots that you did do that just wasn't on your list. YAY for getting more and more done this month. I'll try and help with the no pop thing. I'm still at one a day but it's better than where I was. I'm worried when school starts I'll hope back on the pop train again. EAK!

  6. Sallie and Perkins got this I just know it!! I wish weekends were still filled with lounging by pools and be able to stay awake on Friday and Saturday nights to do all the fun events :) Oh growing up! It's been a while since I've done a goal post - it's time to get some productivity over here!

  8. Love your August goals! My sister, sis in law, and I are doing a 30 day fitness challenge every month until next August when my brother gets married - good way to stay accountable and fit into bridesmaid dresses!

I've been wanting to do a day of freezing cooking for forever but never seem to find the time to actually get it done. I'm hoping when life slows down in September I'll be able to cross it off my list!

  10. Way to go with your healthy goals! I wish so much that I would stop drinking soda, but I know I won't. Haha...just being honest with myself. I could, however, hit the gym or participate in one of those fitness challenges. Also, I'm so intrigued by your book. I can't wait to say that one of my blog buddies is a best-selling author. ;)

  11. I think my one and only goal is to organize my photos and get them backed up. Currently having issues and my hard drive is crashing with the pictures on it and I am sort of freaking out! Must back them up this month! I have a LOT...ugh, don't want to think about losing it all. So sad.

  12. You can totally do the no-pop thing! I LOVE(d) nothing more than a cold coca-cola. I drank many a day for YEARS. Last year i quit cold turkey. never looked back. sure every now and then i get the urge and think one sounds good - but i haven't done it. i think they'd be too sweet. we're a totally soda free family. My son (11) has never liked soda, and my husband quit (also cold turkey) in March. You can do it!

  23. I always love reading your goals each month .. I don't know why it hasn't occurred to me until now to make my own list. ;) GREAT job getting it at the gym. That's a big one for me .. a goal and a struggle.
    You will NOT be sorry when you give up POP! I gave it up about two years ago now and haven't looked back. {and thank you so much for calling it "pop". We recently moved to CA and they call it "soda" out here and look at me like I have two heads when I call it "pop" LOL}

Will you tell us about your freezer cooking, sooner than your goals update? I am SO curious what this means and how you're going to do it! I always think it sounds like a great idea and don't know where to start!! :)

Okay, I'm off to start my own goals list! :) Thanks for the inspiration!

  27. Get fiscal flexibility regardless of the fact that you are existing as non 1000 Pound Loans . Occupancy, as a status, won't be the purpose behind dismissal of same day money in excess of 6 months or Payday Loans Express . You can get a sum inside no time without needing to face the unnecessary bother of benefit assessment that is one the prime explanations behind postponement of advance approbation.

  28. So busy! I definitely need to have a freezer cooking day because we've been eating so much fast food due to laziness (and a few other circumstances) that isn't necessary. How do you store your meals so they don't go bad/freezer burnt?

  29. Great job on your July goals!

I'm working away at my summer goal list, which admittedly I did not make super ambitious. I crossed two things off this week!

  32. YAY for all the work on your book and good luck writing lots more this month! And you two are rocking this whole pay-off-debt thing! I'm jealous. Shawn and I need a lecture from Sallie and Perkins...for real though! I've started a few of these 30-day workout challenges and I do well for the first week or two - heck, this summer i did an entire month of T25, but now cheerleading has started and I kick my own butt along with their girls I coach so I've been slacking on T25. Good luck with the push-up challenge! And I gave up pop after I had ulcers last fall. It really wasn't too bad. I substitute flavored water or iced tea when I feel the need for something besides water.
