Be Quick to Say Thanks

It's way too easy to complain, or to focus on the negative. It's easy, but it's draining... and life-sucking. I hate when I feel down in the dumps and have to shake myself out of it. My life is good! My life is 'hashtag' blessed if you wanna call it that! I have so much to be thankful for, and some days you just wanna stuff all the negativity down in a trash can and focus on the good. So that's what we're doing here today, LFF Readers.

I'm thankful for my freedom, and the people who have fought for it and those still fighting for it. It shouldn't take a holiday for us to remember that but sadly it sometimes does.

I'm thankful for the roof over my head. It is a brand new roof? Nope. In fact it will likely need replaced (at a very high price tag) within the next year or so. But it's our roof, over our home. The one Jared and I paid for and have made countless memories in for over three years now. I'm so thankful we have a place to call our own.

I'm thankful for our tiny town. I don't want to live where we currently do forever, but for right now it's perfect. We can walk to the bank, the library, a local park, a gas station, a Walgreens and most importantly-- a doughnut shop.

I'm thankful for Skype. I probably wouldn't survive without it, now that I have a niece who lives far away. Technology annoys me sometimes, but I'm so happy about video calls and how easy they are to make. Nothing makes me happier than being able to see that adorable little face from miles away.

I'm thankful for windows in my office. Big windows. On long days where customers are mean and I feel like I can't take it another second... I can turn around and get a gorgeous view of the river, the bridge and the great outdoors downtown. Sometimes I even get some awesome people-watching in! Windows might be the weirdest thing I'm thankful for, but I mean it. I do not take those guys for granted!

I'm thankful for my education. Sure, it was expensive and definitely a challenge- but I feel pretty darn proud when I think of all I accomplished in college. Heck, I could put a little M.Ed. after my name, if I felt so inclined. I generally don't, just fyi ;) But it's cool nonetheless.

I'm thankful for Jared, of course, but I'm extra thankful for his fun-loving personality. When we're together we truly can make any situation fun. Doing laundry? He's got a song about it. Paying off bills? We make it a huge deal and take photobooth pictures to commemorate the moment. The grocery store? Yeah... we have a legit dance called the Kroger Shuffle. Plus, what man loves Disney enough to wear matching sweatshirts all week long? Jared- that's who!

So take the time to think of the "smaller" things you're thankful for today.
Let's be slow to complain, but quick to say thanks.

  2. You're so right! It's too easy to get sucked into the negativity trap & then we forget everything we do have for which we should be thankful. Way too often I walk around complaining about our house & how I want to move, when in reality, I have a place to live in a great location with an affordable mortgage payment. We just had to get a new roof too - we weren't planning on it for at least a few more years but our insurance company had other ideas.

  4. We are so quick to be on the Me Train & forget our manners. We need little reminders to remember the little things we learned when we were younger. Thanks for posting.

  29. You're right, it's so easy to get pulled into the negative. Definitely taking time to appreciate the small things makes a big difference in your mood and outlook. Good for you! And isn't it amazing what having windows in your office can do?! You have a pretty amazing view :)

  30. This is such a wonderful reminder. And boy am I jealous of those giant windows in your office! But I'm grateful for my job, even with its beige cubicles, because I have a lot of flexibility both in terms of my work (autonomy and trying new things) and when/where I do it. There is plenty more to be thankful for, too, so thanks for sharing this sweet idea.
