Weekend Warrior

Something rare happened this weekend. Something that will make me sound mean but I promise I'm not. This Saturday? I got to kick Jared out of the house for a few hours and have the home all to myself. And it was glorious!

Now before you go start thinking I'm an awful wife, just know that it's nothing personal and I didn't actually kick Jared out. He was playing in his work softball tournament all day, so when he left the house that morning I was all too happy to send him off with his water bottle and snacks for the day. I never, ever get alone time at home so it was certainly welcomed.

I spent my day scrubbing bathrooms, doing laundry, even writing a few blog posts… all to the tunes of Katy Perry on Pandora, of course. I just can't seem to get stuff done when Jared is home because I really just want to hang out with him! See? I'm nice after all ;)

After a productive day at the house it was off to run a couple errands and then watch my man tear it up on the ball field. I love that a group of random guys can just get together and play a sport for the day… why don't girls do that more?! Not fair! His team got to play two games in the tournament and I had fun watching and cheering Jared on.

Sunday we celebrated a family birthday and tried to get a little pool time in, but the weather wasn't cooperating too much. The guys all played some competitive pool frisbee while I wrapped myself in the largest towel I could find and just tried to stay dry and warm. No suntan for me this day!

I spent a lot of time reading this weekend too. I've started reading some nutrition and health type of books in addition to my usual novel-reading, and I must say, I'm loving it! Obviously we all know the basic stuff about eating right and exercising, but until you read a book describing the actual science and facts behind what those things are DOING to your body? It really doesn't hit you quite as hard. I'm hoping that by reading up on what all that "crap" is actually doing to me, it'll keep me even more motivated to treat this body right. We only get one, after all!!

  2. It's really true that it's much easier for guys to just get together and play sports, randomly. Pretty frequently in the summer Angel will just go to different parks that have basketball courts and play pick-up basketball games with whoever's hanging out there--and he doesn't even know any of them!

  8. Sometimes it's completely necessary to be alone in the house and blast Katy Perry on Pandora. It helps make cleaning a lot more fun! =D

  9. You don't sound horrible at all - my husband went on a men's retreat Thursday - Saturday morning and although I missed him greatly, I was seriously pretty nice! After I put my daughter to bed, I could either watch a chick flick, blog, or just sit and read while drinking my coffee. It was nice so I know what you mean - you aren't an awful wife. ha.

  11. I giggled reading about you kicked jared out! I'm the same way! Especially this summer when Dom has so much free time, I just want to hang out! But I seriously love when he has to go do something for the day because I can get stuff done! Or sit on the couch and binge watch girly shows...both work ;) YAY for reading nutrition books!! Isn't it so fascinating?

  14. Girls are just always worried about the latest gossip than to play a game or something. Boys sometimes just don't care as much, and sometimes I wish girls were the same way.

  19. Sounds like a wonderful weekend to me! I was the same way! My husband is currently in school M-TH & all day on Saturdays, so I have plenty of time now, but I don't know what I am going to do when he graduates in July, ha!

  20. i have the same "problem", if hubby is home I just want to hang out with him, so everything else is put aside, so it's nice when I have the house to myself which happens almost never!

  21. I love my husband and all but I LOVE some alone time to get things done! Good for you for reading up on nutrition! That's something I need to start doing as well. It's scary to think about all the junk we put into our bodies!

  22. I love time alone. i get some Friday night. Kid will still be at camp and husband going to his high school reunion - I'm not going because it's an hour away (not much I know) but he's leaving before i get off work. I won't say what year reunion (but it rhymes with nerdy) because then you too will think he's old!

  23. I feel like if I were to sit down and read a book about healthy living, that it would motivate me more to eat good and work out. Until then, this donut in front of me at work looks good.
