Goals for June

People may not always like reading about my goals each month but it definitely keeps me in check and reminds me to keep after them each week. I did pretty good on my May goals so I'm happy to report the progress!

1. Start on 2012 photobook - CHECK! Right after I finished and ordered my 2011 book I got to work on 2012. One of these days I'll get caught up... or at least only be a little behind, instead of 2-3 years!

2. Finish a book - CHECK! I read Ever After by Karen Kingsbury, and yes, you were right Bekah. Not a book to read on your lunch break, on the treadmill, or really anywhere in public. Such a sad story, but a great one.

3. Have an amazing month of debt payoff - Check minus on this one. We still made a good dent, but our payoff amount wasn't nearly as high as it could/should have been.

4. Pick something on my 30 before 30 list to work on - Check minus here. I did finish a half marathon, but that was a given.... So while I'm not able to cross anything else off at the list at the moment, I do feel like 4-5 of them are works in progress!

5. Try 3 new recipes. FAIL! I only tried one new one... but I made it twice because we loved it so much. Doesn't that count for something?! ;)

But moving right along...

1. We're buckling down on the budget this month-- Sallie & Perkins have been on our case and although our June schedule is PACKED with events and obligations, we are hoping to kiss a good chunk of debt goodbye in June.

2. Finish another book! I'm so glad I'm making time to relax and read again, there is nothing like a good book! All the rain and storms we're supposed to get this week are going to make for some great reading sessions.

3. Work on MY book! I've been writing a book for what seems like forever now. I've always claimed it's my ultimate dream job, to be a published author and actually make a living that way- but I sure don't act like it's my dream! I'm determined to put serious time into my book this month and start fast-tracking myself to the bestseller list ;)

4. Improve my running speed. I'm hoping my hip won't give me any more troubles and I can focus on not just getting miles in, but getting better and faster. I've been on Runner's World a lot looking up different speed drills and training I can do, so I'm praying for an injury-free month of running!

5. Send some snail mail. I mailed one little card last month, but I honestly got so much joy out of sending a random, no occasion needed card to someone I care about. I think I enjoyed sending it as much as they enjoyed receiving it-- so I'd like to make it a habit to send more fun mail to friends and family. Texting and emailing can really only feel so personal… hand written notes are best! :)

What's on your to-do list this month??

  4. Great goals! Reading is always top of my list, right after running. We definitely need to incorporate more financial goals, I like the idea of putting it on a monthly checklist.

I get some hip pain from running too. Without knowing what it is or what it's caused by, I have a great stretch that has helped for after runs. Basically you bend over slightly at the waist, pick one foot up (kind of like a flamingo) then kick back until your leg is straight. I do 8-10 of these on each side, and it definitely helps!

  5. My goal has been to finish scrapbooking Mexico before we go this July...not sure if that's going to happen and then I wanted to start doing yearly books too but my brain says only do one at a time. So now that school is out, we'll see!

  6. Snail mail is the best idea. I get so excited when I get something in the mail that isn't a bill. I've made it a personal goal to read more this year, too. It helps me relax and makes me so much happier!

  9. Okay, I JUST read this on another blog I follow right before this, so since you mention speed, I feel like I should share: http://sparrowinthetreetop.com/just-run/runners-clinic-need-for-speed/
She's starting a blog series on getting faster. She ran a 1:35 half marathon! Um, hello speedy.

  11. I think that you get 3 checks - I think your "check minuses" should at least count of a half-check each. You're doing awesome! I hope your June checklist gets checked off! :)

  13. Um, first off, give yourself a giant CHECK on that half marathon...that was NOT a given! You did that!!! No minuses allowed. I hope your hip stops bothering you. Speed work is so hard but it makes me feel so badass!
Photobooks are on my perpetual to-do list, so I applaud you for getting one done. I'm still working on 2010. And by working on, I mean I've barely started.
I'm ready to buckle down on my budget too. It's been slowly getting better, and while some progress is better than no progress, there's still a lot of room for improvement. I know what all the numbers to be...if I could only get real life to match them ;)

  14. oh snail mail is the best! I can't remember who, but someone for Lent sent 1 snail matter letter a day during lent. I think I'm going to do that next year! But you're right, so much fun to get mail! Good luck with your book and running goals!
