If you've read my blog for any amount of time, you know by now that I'm extremely close to my sister-in-law, Kayla. We talk daily and have so much in common, but it wasn't always that way. In honor of it being 'throwback Thursday' I thought I'd start at the beginning of our friendship.
It all started when my brother-in-law wanted to show me 'this cute girl I'm trying to talk to' so he pulls up his Facebook for Jared and I to stalk along with him. Up comes Kayla's profile as a baby 17-year-old giving a peace sign and rocking aviators in her default pic. My eyes immediately flew from the picture to where I saw "In a relationship" ... No way, Caleb! I'm pretty sure my words were, "Don't you dare try to hit on her... she has a boyfriend!" His response? "Not for long." What a homewrecker right? ;) It's just so funny to think back to hearing my BIL talk about a total stranger and me telling him to stay away, and now Kayla and I are the best of friends!
It took us awhile to get to know each other after they actually started dating... with them being a few years younger than us and away at college some of the time, it wasn't until probably summer 2010 we really started to get to know Kayla.
Our foursome gradually started hanging out more and more that summer, and we always had a great time together! That fall they were back to college again, and then in August 2010 is when Jared and I got engaged. Kayla and I's friendship grew throughout the engagement, and although I wasn't quite ready to pick my brother-in-law-to-be's-girlfriend (that's a mouthful!) to be IN our wedding, she was so supportive and helpful anytime I needed her.
The night that solidified our friendship forever was the evening she came over and we stayed up the ENTIRE night working on wedding programs. She didn't head home until after the sun had already come up. Anyone crazy enough to do that with me is a true friend.
We only got closer as the years went on, and now I can't even remember what life was like before we were friends. When they were gone on their honeymoon? I was like a lost little sheep with no one to talk to for a week!! I'm so thankful that marriage has brought me new siblings and new friendships. Life is good and everyone deserves a "Kayla" in their life. :)
