Busy Can Be A Blessing

Yes, I am happy on a Monday. It is possible, I promise! Sure, no one likes to get out of their cozy bed and head to the office, but that's life, right?! I had a great weekend… the weather was beautiful! I just felt like Spring was truly making it's debut over the past couple of days with the gorgeous sunshine and perfect temperatures.

Friday night Jared and I went out with my parents to see Tim Hawkins, a HILARIOUS comedian. My parents bought us tickets as part of my birthday gift and it was a great idea, we had so much fun! I haven't laughed that hard in a lonnngg time. If you need some laughs, check him out on Youtube here.

Then the ever-so-glorious Saturday came. It's rare that I get time to myself in the house, so I was happy to send Jared off with his guys for an all-day hiking adventure. They started at 4am and hiked almost 30 miles! I took the slightly easier route and started my day with a 2-mile run in our neighborhood ;) The rest of the day I was productive and got a lot of things done, but also made time for some reading and creativity too. These days only come around so often, so I try to enjoy them to the fullest!

That night Kayla and I had a little get-together at her place with some friends and it was such a good, low-key night. Maybe I'm boring, but I'd much rather have a night in with friends than a big, out-on-the-town shindig. Food and games and talking is all I need for a girls night! We were so busy talking, swapping stories and playing a hilarious round of Hedbanz I didn't snap but a couple pictures. That's how you know it was a good night :)
Sunday Jared and I attempted to conquer the world. Household responsibilities we're behind on, yard work, bill-paying, budgeting… you name it, we packed our day full beginning to end. I was exhausted by the evening and happy to turn on Netflix and just veg out for a little before bed. Whew!
Someone commented the other day that I'm the busiest person they know and that's been on my mind a lot lately since they said it. So often I complain about being too busy, about having too many places to go, too many things to do, too many weekends planned out in advance. While I long for downtime, maybe I really shouldn't… I should see the "busy" as a sign that I've got great people in my life to visit with and great opportunities for regular fun and entertainment. Would I want it the other way? With no one to visit with, no one to laugh with and share memories with? Sure, the chaotic schedule sometimes interferes with yardwork, or reading or even sleep. And goodness, I love my sleeping. But I'm really try to see the busy as a blessing, instead of a curse. What about you? Do you welcome the "busy" in your life?

  1. Fun weekend!! I would rather be busy than not. I am much more productive when I am busy! I love having things to do, people to see, and a schedule filled out to the max. I do love my sleep, but thats what Friday night into Saturday mornings are for right!?

  2. I do welcome the busy in my life...until it becomes Sunday night and I need another day to get things done. But I'd rather be busy than bored, and more times than often if we don't have plans I have to listen to Keith whine about it. I do miss sleep though!

  4. I think it's easy to say " I am so busy" but as you said, would we really have it any other way.
I am glad you had such a great weekend! Getting household stuff done is SO refreshing! I wish I was as productive as you two this weekend!

  5. I think there needs to be a balance between busy and chill and I think you bridge that pretty well. You don't want to be bored with nothing to do, but you also don't want to be burning the candle at both ends, that's tough.

Girls nights are so much fun :)!

  6. Ha! You probably already know this but yes, I welcome the busy! I sat down last night and mapped out our calendar for the next 5 weeks... it's TOO busy and gave me a panic attack but I had to remember that I live for this stuff! It will be a fun 5 weeks, if I don't lose my mind somewhere along the way! :)

  7. This is a great way to look it at!! It's nice to have people to see and hang out with :) And I think that helps make your down time more relaxing when you know you've done a lot!

So sad I missed girls night but it sounded like a blast ;)

  9. Oh, I'm definitely someone who enjoys the business of life because so much of it is stuff I love doing! And Tim Hawkins really is hilarious, I love the songs he makes up!

  10. I don't mind being busy as long as I'm getting everything I need - including my alone and relaxing time too. I don't like the glorification of busy though.

  11. I always feels so busy and hurried, but then when I don't I am looking for things to fill my calendar! Love your girls night; staying in is the new going out for me too! :)

  12. I think this is so true. You're a different kind of busy this time of year, it's not football season busy where all you do is work, it's LIFE busy - your life is full right now. I see no problem with that what-so-ever. I always just make sure I have a day every few weeks to really re-boot!

  18. I think busy is good, if I don't have things planned I am usually lazy and do nothing and feel so unproductive.

  19. You seriously are crazy busy! I read about your duties and adventures and get exhausted for you! But my life is crazy busy in a different way now and I suppose I long for down time only because I know I won't be getting it until Mia is grown and moves out of the house ;)
What a great weekend! I love that you were able to accomplish so much!

  20. I love being busy but it's always nice when I suddenly have a spontaneous day "off" with nothing planned. It's a great way to balance running around seeing everyone I love with me time for catching up on life--blogging, cooking, cleaning and all that good stuff that I let slide when I'm having too much fun.

  21. Man, you hit it right on the money girl. I have been having that same thoughts lately and feel like I can't even catch my breath. But you are correct - it means you are blessed to have so much going on in your life. Though I can't lie, sometimes veggin' on the couch makes its way into my planner ;)

  22. My rule is one night off each week with NO responsibilities, one weekend day a month and one full weekend away twice a year :) Other than those special days, bring on the busy!

  23. Not going to lie, I HATE being busy. I love having limited or no plans and the freedom to do what I want. But then again, I just require a lot more down time than most people. I'm pretty much a hermit and I love it that way, and my husband is exactly the same way so we have a lot of boundaries when it comes to making plans. Being around people and being out and about all the time completely drains me. I don't mean any of that to say we're lazy. We get a ton of stuff done, but the thought of having a full calendar is my personal hell.

  24. Sounds like you had an awesome weekend!! I think that being busy is both a blessing and a curse. Like you and your hubby, Mark and I don't have much down time and our days/nights/weekends always seem to be jam packed with stuff to do that sometimes I wish we just had a day to ourselves to relax. I don't think we have a free weekend with nothing going on until sometime in July and although like you said, being busy is great because it means that you have great people in your life to spend time with... I just want a weekend at home on the couch with the hubby to watch a movie or do something low key together! I definitely wish we had been more productive around the house this weekend... I desperately need to dust and maybe get to planting some flowers but oh well, hopefully that will come in the next week or so!

  25. I have always been busy. But there did come a point this fall where I was too busy and I was tapped out. It was time to reevaluate my busy-ness and get happy with my life again. So for me, busy is a balance. I love having things to do on my calendar, but I also enjoy some downtime and days without plans. I am finally finding a happy medium between my former, busier self and my present, less busy self :)

  26. I agree, busy can be a blessing as long as it's fun busy and not stressful/overwhelming busy. I think it also depends on if I find myself being 'too busy' for things that SHOULD be priorities... if that makes sense! It sounds like you're living it up, though, so that's awesome! It makes my heart happy to read about the fun times you're having :-)
