Am I 27 or 72??

I'll be turning 27 this coming Sunday and just for fun I started making a mental wish list. As my brain jotted down a few things that came to my mind quickly, I had to slow my "pen" and remind myself how old I will be turning. 27 is still oh-so-young, yet my birthday wish list? Might as well be for someone turning 72.

Honestly? The first thing that came to mind was new carpet for our house. Exciting, huh?! Then new appliances, maybe a thorough car detailing, someone to put money toward's my student loans.... etc. It's scary how all the things coming to mind were practical and downright boring! So while those are more important things than a frivolous shopping spree, it's still fun to think of those things I'd love simply because I want them, not need them.

I'll pretty much take anything the LOFT sells, but I've been especially eyeing this scarf, and this dress lately. And hey! Why hasn't LOFT send me any type of birthday coupon yet? Did they forget me?? I'm also on the hunt for a good nude-colored sandal, every girl needs a pair of those, right? Or really if someone could just find me all the perfect shoes in the world, I'll take a pair of each.

I mentioned yesterday that Punta Cana has truly inspired me to reach deep into my brain and recover what Spanish I have learned, and get a lot better at it too. Rosetta Stone is crazy expensive, but goodness I've heard it's the best out there! And in the very likely chance I don't receive this software- does anyone have any good websites for learning Spanish??

Cookbooks. Old person alert! ;) But Erin, you have Pinterest, why do you need a cookbook?? While Pinterest is amazing and I've found many a' good recipes there, I love having a paper cookbook to flip through and discover.

A Garmin Forerunner GPS watch still has my attention, as well. Even though I've barely been able to run for weeks now due to this silly hip injury, I know I'll run again... eventually! And when I'm back at it, I'd love to have something like this to help me stay on track and motivate me even more.

Along with that watch? I'll take just about any type of running gear anyone wants to buy me. I'm obsessed with Under Armour and would gladly live in their stuff if I could. Hoodies, tees, tanks, leggings- you name it, I want it ;)

And of course, it never hurts to ask for a puppy.

Are your birthday lists practical or fun? Or a little bit of both? ;) What are you currently wishing for!?

  1. I love your birthday list, so I think that makes me 72 right along there with you.

I got a LOFT birthday coupon, so I'm sure yours is in the mail! I had boycotted LOFT for about a year, but I couldn't pass up that coupon and not there's no turning back. They seriously have the best sales around.

And gimme all the UA running gear. I just got new UA shoes and their all-season workout pants. SO soft. I almost choked when I got to the cash register, but they were seriously worth every last penny and they have super fun colors too! Oh and if you haven't gotten new running shoes - highly recommend theirs. They are so lightweight, super comfortable and cost less than $100! #winning

  2. I used livemocha.com for a little while and it was really cool. Native speakers judge how you pronounce things and you can do the same for those learning English.

  3. Have you tried DuoLingo for Spanish? Otherwise, if it doesn't necessarily have to be all online, I've been pretty impressed with Living Language. They have online games and flashcards you can do for free on their website without even buying a book, but their "complete edition" is $50, way less than Rosetta Stone, and includes audio cds. and workbooks. I haven't used it for Spanish but my husband is using it for Mandarin--and I'm impressed at what you get in education for the price!

  4. Puppy!!! ;) My mother just asked for my wish list today, and my first instinct was money for my cable bill! Hahahah. I guess this means we're adults?? But, on a more fun note I discovered these amazing Tory Burch Savannah wedges yesterday that I don't think I can live without! Unfortunately with their price tag I think I better learn to live without them. ;)

  5. Another suggestion for Duolingo! I've been using it for German (which I knew none of). I imagine if you already know some of the language it could really help you brush up! And yes girl you need a Garmin in your life, stat!

  6. They are usually a mix of both, but this year, I didn't have a list at all. Family asked what I wanted and I said "I don't know". Honestly, I think it has to do with the fact we've only been married for six months and still have gifts in boxes. There's really nothing I need, besides the ability to eat ice cream every day and not gain weight.

  7. Yay for birthdays!! I am with you on loving actual cookbooks - there's just something so satisfying about flipping through the pages and picking out all the things you want to make.

  10. I ususally like items that I won't get for myself...which these days could mean anything! I like experiences more than things I guess. So a weekend trip somewhere or a neat place for dinner is always good for me :)

  11. My birthday and Christmas wish lists are usually super practical and it drives my mom (& hubby crazy)... like the time I asked everyone to buy me a tire for my car (tires are super expensive) or the time I needed new luggage because mine was falling apart... or the new dishes I wanted for the kitchen. I guess it is just all part of growing up... we become more practical and ask for more normal things. This year I think I am going to ask for a Pandora charm bracelet... that way I have something that can grow with me and I can add things to as special things happen in our lives!

  15. I've been using DuoLingo for the past few months to relearn French. I know that one of the other languages that they have is Spanish. It's completely free online, and I think that it's pretty fun. It's definitely a great brain exercise.

I love browsing the Budget Books (or whatever they call it) when I go to Barnes and Noble. I've bought a few cookbooks there the last few times. (:

  16. I don't even look through my cook books anymore, I do love reading them occasionally though. Pinterest is my go to..I'm dreaming of new patio furniture! It's only 48 here today so I guess I'll wait on that. ;)

  19. There's a free app called duolingo for your phone you can use to brush up on that Spanish - I think they have a website too.

  20. I want to learn Spanish too - we can learn together! I've been going back and forth on whether I should buy Rosetta Stone but think by this Summer I'm going to finally bite the bullet (or maybe put it on my birthday wish list too!)

One year I asked for a sewing machine for my birthday and instead got a beer pong table. Pretty much the complete opposite of what I asked for. Apparently I was asking for something that was 'to old' for me. Whatever that means lol

  21. My lists for birthday and even Christmas are definitely a little bit of both!
A puppy would be good, so..ya know...Jared should consider that. ;-)
Also, I've been wanting to do Rosetta Stone for a while, I even asked Doug to do it with me, but their prices make me sick. lol
I kind of wanted to do French or Italian. But, as a more practical thing, Spanish would be the better option. Bleh. Especially when I live right by Little freaking Mexico down here.

  30. Girl, I would give Under Armor alllll my dolla bills if I could. Love their stuff! The long-sleeved running shirt I bought back in January was a brilliant purchase. I wear it religiously.

  31. a puppy ftw! i didn't realize you were still having hip pain :( are you still going to run the pig! i hope it starts feeling better soon!

  32. Yup, you're officially getting old when you want things for the house & then get excited about them like you did when you got that one Barbie doll for Christmas when you were 5 years old. It's sad...but a way of life, I guess. There is nothing more I want right now than for new living room furniture. I've been dreaming of the day that I'll finally get to pick some out...but in the meantime, I like books, movies & anything Brewer/Packer/Badger. :)

  35. HAPPY belated Birthday!!!!!!! I love your list, it's WAY more than what i can come up with. my 32nd [85th] bday is less than a month away and all that i can think of is perfume, maybe a new watch and stuff to go with my new sewing machine! hahaha

  36. I love the Garmin Forerunner! Granted I don't use it much anymore now that I don't run, but I fully intend to post-baby! It's what got me through marathon training when I was traveling for work and didn't have my courses (with mileage) all mapped out :-)
