Wreck This

Last Christmas I received a journal as a gift. Not just any journal mind you. A crazy, off-the-wall, totally unique journal. While I love blank pages and lines just begging for me to fill them with words and ideas, this journal really gets my creativity flowing anytime I "use" it.

Have you heard of these? Wreck My Journal makes a few different variations of them, and while at first I thought, "I'll never use this!" I was completely wrong. It's not a journal you sit down and fill out day after day. Rather, I pick it up randomly when I have free time, or when I'm feeling uninspired. Each page is something different, some of them hilarious, some serious, some completely off-the-wall.

I think there is just something about doing things out of the norm that makes your brain start working differently. I might only look at this journal 10 minutes in a month's time, but each activity seems to breathe new life into my writing, my blog, my aspirations. As silly as that may sound, I truly believe in doing NEW things and DIFFERENT things to keep us creative and keep us on our toes. Just challenging our brain or even just allowing it to do something that's not part of our normal routine can really spark something in there! Just a few doodles can sometimes make me think of dozens of new things to write about.

I mean, we can only stalk blogs and Pinterest for so long before we run out of ideas and just start becoming like everyone else. I love to do random things like poke holes through a journal page, or pick up a magazine at the library that I think I have no interest in… just to learn something fascinating I never knew. Whatever it is, keep doing, keep learning, keep being weird. Do what makes you feel alive!

  17. Everytime I'm in the bookstore I pick up these journals and thumb through then and then put it back on the shelf because I feel intimidated by it. I love the idea though and one of these days I'll take the plunge and make the purchase!

I agree with you. There is nothing worse that your creative juices slowing down or stopping. It's sad.
Great to have something to kickstart it back up & even though Pinterest is great with that, sometime IT doesn't even work.
    So I love this!
