Why Winter Doesn't Suck

It's really no secret that I hate winter. I don't like being cold, the snow is an annoyance, I mean what good is there right??? Tuesday morning my usual 30 minute commute took me close to TWO HOURS just because of the recent snowfall. Not to mention the twenty minutes it took for me to clean off my car to a drive-able state. Sheesh. Please, someone, anyone...remind me why in the world I live in Ohio and not some tropical beach?

Complaining about something is much easier than thinking of the positives though, isn't it? I should know, seeing as how that first paragraph took me just a few seconds to write, but now that I want to think about the positives of winter... it's taking me awhile to jot down my list. That's what today is all about, in case you hadn't guessed from my ever-so-clever blog title: Why Winter Doesn't Suck. It doesn't matter how much I complain about winter, my opinions will not make it go away faster and will not raise the temperature a single degree. So I'll try to embrace it, as gross and cold as it may be, and think positively about the good parts of this time of year.
Snow. Although I don't like being out driving in it AT ALL, it's so beautiful. Those rare weekend snowfalls, when everything just seems peaceful and fresh outside? It's gorgeous! When we got home from our friend's this past Saturday night, the snow had just started falling and it was just so calm outside. Jared and I stood out in the cold just a few minutes longer to take in the scenery and the quietness that only winter can provide. Plus, you're never too old to try to catch a snowflake or two on your tongue. Or try to guess how many animals (and what kind!) have been traipsing through your yard, leaving their tracks.
Keepin' it classy since 1987.

Warm Drinks. I'm not a coffee drinker, and not really a big tea-drinker generally either, but come winter time a good chai tea or a steaming cup of hot cocoa is such a delicious treat. Most seasons you aren't going to want to curl up with a hot cup of anything. Winter is the perfect time for that and I'm taking full advantage.
This cocoa was included in a gift basket from a client…. SO tasty!

Sweat Pants. Okay, sure you can dress in your comfiest clothes year-round, but in winter? There's really no reason to wear anything but sweat pants and hoodies when you're in your house. Plus it can hide all the extra treats you consumed over the previous holidays while you try to rid them at the gym and prior to bikini season. It doesn't matter if you've worn the same sweats 4 nights in a row! Throw them on and snuggle into your couch with as many blankets as you can.

And what better way to feel some love for winter than to ask other bloggers? I loved so many of their answers and they gave me some new reasons to appreciate the next couple of months. Sidenote- perhaps I should learn to ski and/or snowboard??

All these lovely ladies are on my sidebar and would love to meet you! ---------> Be sure to stop over and say hi and talk about your hatred love for winter ;) What are some good things YOU enjoy about these chilly months?

  1. I work at a college so I still get the pleasure of having snow days (rarely, like today, they do sometimes happen!).

    1. Ooh, as rare as they might be, it's still an extra bonus! I've always thought it would be fun to work for a college in some form. PS- I couldn't find an email address for you to respond that way. You're a no-reply blogger! =\

  2. I wish it would snow more down here! Okay, by more I mean at least once so I can look at the beauty, go outside in the beauty, and then come back inside in the warmth. Amen on the way on sweatpants, snuggles, and hot cocoa!

  3. YES. Love this. But then again, I'm the freak who hates summer and loves winters.

  4. If it snowed in Texas, I think I would appreciate the cold more. But for us it just gives us a break in the humidity department. :)

  5. I hate snow. I hate winter. Your 3 reasons why winter doesn't completely suck barely make up for the 28394 reasons why it does. Why do we live in Indiana and Ohio?! What are we thinking?

  6. One of the reasons I look forward to winter is the peaceful, not walked through yet scenery right after it snows! It's so beautiful but we often forget about it because it's so stinkin cold (and winter lasts FOREVER in the Midwest).

  7. Erin, whatever you do, DON'T EAT YELLOW SNOW! lol Also I am a huge fan of chai tea lattes, especially in winter. And you should definitely learn how to ski/snowboard if you have any interest, it's such a blast! :-) Loved being part of today's feature!!

  8. I am one of the rare people that love the winter and the cold weather! I am from Pittsburgh and living in the southeast makes me miss home sometimes! It rarely ever snows here and the people here cant handle anything about the cold or snow. It makes me sad!

  9. Winter is totally great.. until you have to actually go somewhere. Can't winter be winter everywhere that isn't the roads? Like.. snow should automatically be rejected on cement.

  10. Winter sucks, unless I'm safely in my house in front of the fire wearing "pleasures" and watching the snow, because it is indeed beautiful. Until you actually have to go out in it.

  11. I am in love with winter right now. But that's only because I haven't had one in 6 years :) Now ask me next year and I'll probably be singing a different tune.

  12. I'm pretty much one who does hate winter--and I'm not ashamed to say it. However, sledding is a benefit.

  13. I'm SO over winter already but you're right - got to keep it positive! I don't mind winter for those 3 reasons as well :) Last night we all went to walk to the dog and there's just something so calming being outside in the snow at night, until the cold makes it through your 5 layers!

  14. I love winter! Although today the wind was just awful, -30 with the windchill (but still warmer than last week)! It is so much fun to take the daycare kiddos outside in the snow and watch them play with it, sometimes for the first time!

  15. I really do love winter...just wish I could stay home (as in, work from home -- or not work at all) during the cold months so I never had to make sure my car thawed out, and spend 2+ hours getting to work. Snow really is much prettier when I can admire it from my bedroom window with fuzzy socks and a huge hot chocolate. Although I do love sledding, its been forever!!! We should try to fit it in next Winter!

  16. Fireplaces!!! I love turning on our fireplace (while wearing sweat pants and drinking a hot beverage and watching the snow fall).

  17. So true! I love the look of winter, I just hate going out in it (unless it's to do something fun like skating or skiing or...I think that's about all I can think of!!!!).

  20. Ugh, you have such a good attitude. In my opinion the ONLY good thing about winter is my birthday! :)

  21. The coffee is ALWAYS better when it's freezing cold outside though it's good year round. The sweatpants and hoodies equal a thumbs up in my book. Love your positive outlook even if it takes a few minutes to remember the positives.

  22. I definitely don't mind the snow… when I don't have to be anywhere! Otherwise, it's only fun for the first couple minutes when its so pretty.
