Love, Fun and Football: The Low-Key Life

The Low-Key Life

I feel like the blogworld is exploding with glitter and party dresses and stories of how they spent their NYE, I'm just here... at work, with greasy hair and slippers on my feet. A lovely image, I know! This blog has been neglected lately, and even today I didn't feel like I had much to say but I still just felt like writing. It's amazing how much this blog has become part of my life and how a little part of me is missing when I can't post and read blogs. I want things to slow down, but then again, I don't want football season to end for another month... so I'm in a weird emotional state I'm right now that you'll just have to excuse.

New Year's Eve we went to dinner at our favorite Japanese steakhouse with my parents. A tradition that has been going on for over twenty years now in our family! It was nice to try to escape the football world for just an hour or two and enjoy some time with Jared and my parents. Although, our chef kept yelling "WHODEY" throughout the meal -LOL! I just can't get away from it, I guess!

Jared and I spent the last few hours of 2013 with our favorite winter candle lit and a puzzle out on the table. A puzzle that has been neglected again, because of football season, but we are finally almost done with it. We enjoyed good music, some late night snacks and just good conversation about what's in store for this coming year. All in our most comfy pajamas and my slippers that now seem to permanently be attached to my feet.

It was the most low-key NYE celebration we've had in a long while, and although it felt strange to not be making plans with all of our best buds, we really enjoyed that quiet time together. The hustle and bustle of holidays and football has been eating up a huge chunk of our lives, so any downtime is appreciated.

So here's to January, 2014. Whatever chaos it may bring!! And soaking in any downtime we can grab onto!

  8. I'm a fan of low key :) And Japanese steakhouses are the best- as long as you're not going anywhere you don't mind smelling like the food afterwards!

  9. We had a pretty quiet New Year celebration too. I took Boomer to the movies with Mom, and then I actually fell asleep before the ball dropped. They made sure to wake me up so I could see it though. I think low-key evenings are fun too!

  13. I think that sounds like a great NYE to me! I would love to do something like that next year, too! Some years curling up and hanging out with your man is the best type of celebrating!

  17. Before we had a baby we use to love doing puzzles. Of course, my husband would say "not another puzzle" but whenever I started working on it he would sit down and say "let me show you how it is done". Those were some of my favorite times. I miss that quality time together when doing a puzzle. Happy New Year!

  19. we had a very similar NYE. Home, just the two of us. And you know what? It was WAY more fun than some of the NYE on the town we have had.

  21. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a low key NYE! They are sometimes the best ones. I tend to have low key weekends all the time so having the chance to party was definitely taken. Happy New Year and I cannot wait to continue reading your blog in 2014!

  24. My NYE was the same. Michael was working so I caught up on blog reading and emails and just enjoyed getting ready for the new year! I think puzzles are THE most relaxing thing to sit and do. I hope your football team keeps it going but I also hope you find some time to enjoy you and relax some too. I hate you are having to work so much!

  27. quite alright to trade lives because I'm an old soul (or old fart because they are synonymous) and I would love nothing more to be lame and spend a night in with the dude I love. Sometimes especially after working crazy hours, chilling is nice. Happy new year!!! <3 <3 <3 <3

  28. Happy New Year! We were lame too! We sat around until 11:45 and then walked downtown to the fireworks, long enough to take pics (for the blog), and then came home and argued because Rob was dipping at 12:01AM for the second year in a row. Fun huh? Happy New Year girl!

  29. Love the slippers! I want some!

Anthony & I always stay in for NYE. We always eat pizza & watch movies. We've done that for the past six years and I love it. :)

  30. As long as you're enjoying time with each other that's all that matters! I told Zach that I want to stay in next year for new year's. Happy New Year!

  31. Our NYE was super relaxing. We stayed in, ate pizza & snacks, drank champagne & played board/card games all night. Honestly, we were both more than ok with it. I actually hate going out on NYE anyway. Too many crazies!

  32. What's your favorite Japanese steakhouse? Always looking for a new place to try out. My hubby and I went to Abigal Street in OTR and it was delish... then we came home and watched netflix and drink some champs. We paused it at about 11:57 to watch the ball and kiss but then got right back into a little more TV before bed. It was just what the doctor ordered!

  33. That sounds like an awesome NYE! Glad you got a little bit of down time :)

  34. I personally think that sounds like an ideal NYE. Glad y'all were able to enjoy some nice quiet time.
I'll be glad for you when things calm down at work, although I know you'd love for that to be after they win a ring. ;-) You're pushing through like a champ though!
And I finally found that puzzle in a store but wasn't able to buy it at the time, so now I have to remember what store it was so I can recheck. And they have so many like that, I've seen Pinocchio and such, I told Doug I was going to buy a bunch of them. lol Also, they have a Thomas Kinkade The Disney Dreams Collection calendar (aka a calendar with those pictures -the one in your puzzle is March- then there is Little Mermaid, Peter Pan, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, The Lion King, etc.) it's so pretty and I got one for myself and SO wanted to get you one because I know you share such a huge love for Disney also! The only problem is getting it to you since you're God knows how many miles away. lol. So if you don't have a 2014 calendar yet, or whatever, just send me your address. :-p

  36. Sometimes it's nice to soak up those low-key nights. We ended up spending NYE at our friends' house and their baby. We played cards and drank wine, and of course, watched football. Sometimes it's nice to just relax and ring in the new year in cozy pjs. Cheers to 2014!!

  40. A low key life is SO glamorous...seriously. I would trade in sequins and heels for sweats and a box of pizza anyday ;) lets be low key together soon, k? MWAH.

  41. I love a low key NYE. We did go out but it was just to our neighbors' house so it was almost like staying home. I love those biscuits (that's what we call slippers). And I had to laugh at the picture of your puzzle (you'll see why when you get a chance to read my New Year's post)!

  42. we had a low-key new years last year and it was sooo nice. so nice in fact that as we were on our way to the party we went to this year, we talked about turning around and going home for a night in! guess we're just getting old! lol

  43. Nothing wrong with low-key for sure! :)

  44. I'm glad you could decompress a little on NYE. You deserve it! I'll be at the game on Sunday and I CAN'T WAIT!

  45. We did the SAME thing, and it was wonderful. I felt disconnected from the world, and I didn't hate it. I was even bed before like 11:00!

Like you said, downtown together is just as great as going out for a perfect night on the town!
Glad you had such a great New Years!
