December Goals

Last month I linked up my monthly goals with the lovely Erica and I really think it helped me stay on track. At least, more than I would have without this post and link-up, right? Let's see how I did, and what I'll be tackling this month:

1. Improve my workouts.
I don't think I did this, but I didn't get worse, so do I get half a point?? Jared's birthday and the holiday threw us off our normal routine, but we still stuck with it. I didn't make any huge accomplishments in the gym per say, but I'm toughing it out even when all I want to do is sit at home and eat peppermint bark.

2. Finish ONE photobook.
Listen, I totally deserve a half-point on this one too. While I didn't finish my 2011 photobook this month, I made a tonnnnn of progress. I can't help it that 2011 was one of the most exciting years of my life and that I have approximately 42 billion photos to sort through! I'm all the way to August though, so definite progress was made here. I cannot wait for the day when I can be caught up on picture storage. That is possible... right?!

3. Have our best financial month yet.
Okay, no sugar-coating it here. Fail. Again, we let birthdays and holidays get the best of us and probably had a little extra fun this month, but Sallie & Perkins still paid off a lot of money!  Right around $1,800 including the last payment on Erin Sallie's grad school. We knew this time of year would be tough, with gifts to buy and lots of fun things we want to do, but we're still proud of that dent we made. 2014 better watch out though.... we have HUGE plans.

4. Host Friendsgiving.
Done, done, done!! An official "check" on our list. We had a blast and I talked about it here if you missed it.

5. Declutter. A LOT.
Definitely made some progress on this too. Jared tackled our garage big time and we both went through our closets and got rid of a lot of clothes and extra junk.

So now, we have December goals! I'm trying not to get too ambitious because with my work schedule and the 50 holiday parties we have (not complaining!) I know this month will fly. Here's what I hope to accomplish:

1. Officially lose 10 pounds.
That might seem insane around the holidays, but it's actually the opposite for me, I think. I want to really look and feel good before Christmas and sprint into a new year with a healthier version of myself. I say 'officially' lose because I've been up and down a lot on the scale lately. Lifting weights is changing my body, so I know I can't always count on the scale... but I do know I need to slim down still.

2. Do as many Christmas-y things as possible.
I have to keep reminding myself that Christmas comes just once a year.... if it means I have to sacrifice some sleep or some downtime (what's that?!) to enjoy the festivities, so be it! Jared and I have plans to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra again this year, our church has quite a few events for the holidays and we'd love to try to make it to our zoo lights. But we also want to wear our Christmas pj's, watch every Christmas movie known to mankind and sip hot chocolate by our fireplace too. BRING ON THE FESTIVE.

3. Finish that 2011 photobook!
Enough said.

4. Cross an item off my 30 before 30 list.
Can you guess which one??? ;)

So, nothing too lofty and nothing that can't be done, right?! What type of goals are you making this month??

  1. Ohhh love hearing about your progress and goals! And I hear you on the gym/weight loss stuff... must get my butt to the gym more. One of my 30 before 30 was to lose 10-15 lbs before the big 3-0 in February. Maybe I can still get that done?

  8. I love doing Christmass-y things around the holiday, especially DVRing every cheesy holiday movie in existence and watching them with cups of hot cocoa. You go with those 10 pounds, girl. I know you can do it!

  12. I'm gonna guess....host a holiday meal!! :) Did I get it right???
My December goal is to lose 5 pounds. Sounds easy...but its harder than it sounds. I'm the worst weight-loser ever! I wanted to lose 5 pounds for my wedding, and I think I lost 1 pound (in like a year!). AND unfortunately I've gained 5 pounds since my wedding. UGH......fingers crossed I get my butt moving this month!!

  13. I'm super glad you're doing a monthly goal list also. I only started in October but I really think it helps! 50 parties!? Totally jealous over here! I would also love a thirty before thirty. I'm only 23 but I feel like I should already start on a 40 list to give myself some cushion! Do you get to scratch off the holiday meal one? :)

  15. Host a meal or update camera/lens? Or giving up coke (pop) for 60 days straight?
Those are good goals & you did great on the November goals even with life happening! :)

  17. My goal this month is to finish a photobook, too! I've given up on trying to complete our wedding photobook this year, but darnit, I'm going to finish my 2013 photobook if it kills me!

  18. Great job last month! You are seriously so busy and I wouldn't have been able to complete half of what you did :) I am on the same boat for christmas! As much as I love christmas treats I enjoy feeling good about my self even more, so here is to trying not to stuff my face with 54325 christmas cookies a day! Good luck this month! I am on the same boat as a lot of your readers...is your goal to be a mom!? Hope so!

  19. I've started doing monthly goals too! I think it's easier to do small pieces like that. Also I've been LOVING your Sallie and Perkins posts. I'm buried under a mountain of student loan debt and I love reading how you guys are paying it off. Go you!
