Sallie & Perkins: August Progress

If you're looking for Erin- she already gave you all her weekend recap yesterday. Sorry to disappoint but hey, it's Tuesday, it's the start of a new month and you probably know what that means. Sallie & Perkins have more updates and progress to share with you all today!

July was even better than June as far as debt elimination, and we really weren't sure if we could keep up with our intensity for the month of August. With a weekend trip to Memphis, TN for a wedding, plus some birthday gifts to purchase and bridal showers to attend? We were afraid we'd fall short of our goals last month. We kept chugging away, doing our best to live frugally even when it wasn't fun. And you know what?

It worked. Again. You'd think I'd stop being surprised at our end results after a couple months, but Perkins and I still freak out a little and do a happy dance when we pay off those huge chunks of debt.

Sallie & Perkins paid off $2,552.23 worth of debt in August 2013!!!

We topped last month AGAIN!! I cannot explain the pride we feel, being able to click a few buttons and send over that money to all the various loans we owe on. The payment we made in August were enough to cross one another loan completely, which is definitely motivating. To have one less payment a month? Rocks our argyle socks off!

Being on a budget is HARD. I cannot tell you how many times a week I complain about wanting to shop, or wanting to spend extra money on a night out with friends or wanting to book a weekend getaway and not think about the cost.
Honestly? Most days we feel like this. Not spending money SUCKS.
But what I can tell you? At the end of the month when we have less debt than we did 30 days ago? It's 110% worth those frustrating nights I can't/won't/don't spend money. It's worth sacrificing a few fun things each month and having that extra money to eliminate as much debt as we can each month. The tough choices are worth it when we can see how far we've come in just a few months, and how we're one step closer to being financially free!

I'd challenge any of you with debt, or any of you just struggling to start SAVING- to really think about your purchases. Don't be so quick to splurge on something fun now, and think about how much MORE fun you could have once you're debt free and/or prepared for emergencies with a cushion in your savings. It might not feel fun at the time, but your bank account will thank you in a few months.

  5. I have plans when I get a new job, that I can start paying off debt. My current income and my current situation doesn't allow for much extra money at all, which means I don't spend much which is probably good haha

  10. I appreciate the honesty! It is hard, but you're right...so worth it. We're living frugally simply because I lost my job and I've realized it's no fun, but it's also not the end of the world. If I kept living this way AFTER I'm back at work, I'd be on my way to freedom with Sallie & Perkins! :)

  11. Y'all ROCK! So awesome! Y'all have paid back what around 7 grand since you started this? That's unbelievable! I'm curious as to how much you would have paid monthly prior to starting the Ramsey plan.

  12. You are SO inspiring!!! We are definitely on a budget with only having one income but we barely make it month to month so I don't think there's any way I could pay off my loans like that. It's a goal though!! Awesome job :) keep it up!!!!
