Our House

My post yesterday was about first apartments and houses... and of course that got my brain going wild. I get the itch to move ALL THE TIME! Maybe it's because we moved a lot as kids, but I really do enjoy it. Okay, enjoy is an understatement.... I'm borderline obsessed with looking at houses for sale, floor plans, you name it! When I was young I used to ask my mom to buy me a house plan book any time we were at Lowe's or Home Depot. That should have been a sign that architecture was my calling in life..... sigh, guess I missed that one! ;)

So as I thought about my post last night, I also thought about how I need to learn to be content. Too often I want something in our house --whether it's furniture, or an upgrade-- that just isn't realistic. Be it due to size, to cost, it doesn't matter. What matters is enjoying my house NOW. Jared and I's first house together! A house we got an amazing deal on! A house we're having fun making our own still!

Since someone mentioned an interest in a house tour yesterday, I'll give you just a sneak peek of some favorite parts of our home. Maybe one day when I've completed every project, painted every room, and organized it all I'll give a "real" home tour. So don't hold your breath on that happening anytime soon ;)

Our House:
From the ruffly curtains and picture wall in our office...

To our guest bedroom, filled with maps and souvenirs from our travels together...

From the fun pops of color & polka dots in the bathroom...

To little reminders of our wedding day, sprinkled around the house...

From our vintage book collection...

To the football on our mantle. The football that we'll one day show our kids and say, let us tell you the story of how we got engaged...

Our house may not be perfect, but I'm sure gonna' enjoy those imperfections along the way.

  2. Houseguest, party of one, right here!! :) I love how sentimental and sweet you've made your home. It truly reflects what wonderful people you are and I can't wait to hear even more about how you've made it your own!

Now, I'm off to stalk house listings just for fun! Twins, allllll the way.

  4. Love it all, but especially those continental pillows. What a fun touch! I NEVER moved as a kid and thus always have the itch to do so if it makes you feel any better.

  6. You should do a house tour!!! I'm doing one right now on my blog. Impromptu because Shawn and I just decided it was a good idea to try to rent our condo on Monday...

Anyway, I love the map pillows, the vintage books and the polka dots in the bathroom! I love looking at houses too! It's an obsession and it gets me in trouble because I always want to move too! If money were no object, believe you me I'd own multiple houses in multiple locations around the world! How cool would that be?!

All of this rambling to say - I'm with you :)

  7. I LOVE looking at listings and floor plans! I was the same way when I was younger, I watched HGTV all the time (and still do). I begged for a house plan book everytime we went in Lowe's and even went as far as picking out color swatches at the paint counter ;) I definitely missed my calling as a interior designer! Ha!

  20. Those pillows are really cute! I have MAJOR house envy right now. We've been in our apartment for 2 years now, and I'm ready to have a house I can decorate and fill with new furniture (not the hand-me-downs I've had since I moved to Oklahoma). Learning to be content is something I'm working on right now too, so I know what you mean!

  25. AH. I love that my bedroom (aka your guest room) is travel themed!! I think that's very fitting :) LOVE your house! The process of making it "perfect" is the best part, I think!

  26. I love it all! You are so creative! My house is so boring. I wish I could afford someone to just redo EVERYTHING for me. I am the least creative person in the world. I am also obsessed with house hunting though. I check online almost every day to see if there are any new houses on the market. I'm hoping we'll be moving into a bigger house next year, but I just like seeing what's out there.
