Home is wherever I'm with YOU

Happy Tuesday everyone!! I've got a little extra pep in my step today because I got a solid 2.5 miles in before work this morning. I wish I could be motivated to do it every day-- how do you morning work-outers do it?!

I'm happy to be co-hosting a fun linkup today with Halie & Syndal- so be sure to stop by over here and check out what they have to say about these fun topics as well! I always love talking houses and moving, so this topic was perfect!

First apartment or house on your own
This could be answered a variety of ways, so I figured I'd do that just- and give you the short version of each ;)

First unofficial apartment was up at college with FIVE other girls. Yes, you read that correctly and yes it was as drama-filled as you can imagine! Oh, college!

Now, for an "official" apartment of my own? In May 2010 I officially got hired full-time at my job and it was time to move out of my parents house. I needed something closer to my work, and something cheap. I got the most basic 1-bedroom apartment and that's all it was to me. A basic place to sleep.
Me signing the lease & loving that huge closet at the apartment!
It's funny to look back now and realize that I did NOTHING to make that apartment my own. I took all the hand-me-down furniture and kitchenware I could and plopped it all down. Sure, a few pictures made it up here and there.... but to me, I knew it was likely only a one-year lease (Hellooooo, waiting on a ring!)

And finally, Jared and I bought our first house in March 2011, just a couple months before we got married! We had so much fun snagging amazing deals on Craig's List and furniture outlets. The first things we bought were couches for the living room, and a big giant sectional for downstairs.
Please excuse the horrendous phone quality pics... and the price tag still on our couch ;)
I ♥ power tools WAY too much :)
We've had soooo much fun making this house our own, and slo-o-o-w-l-y we are making updates to it. Jared and I get 'moving fever' from time-to-time, but we know there is still a lot of living to do in this house.

So how about you? When did you get your own place? Ever lived with 5+ people?! Link up and let me know ;)

  3. I was 1/5 girls living in a house on campus my sophmore year. I totally know how you feel! Luckily, I had my own bathroom and was downstairs in a renovated garage bedroom and all the other 4 girls were upstairs. :)

  8. FIVE girls?? I could've never handled that. I lived with 2 others my sophomore year of college and that was annoying enough sometimes! And I adore your sectional. I want one just like it, but in red when the time comes!

  9. I'm absolutely obsessed with that sectional. Gimme!

5 girls makes me want to run away and cry. But it seemed like such a good idea at the time!

The townhouse Brad and I rented before we bought our house had the BEST walk in closet, I was in heaven and it was ALL mine, I made Brad take the spare room one lol

  18. I lived with 5 other girls in college and loved every second of it. Haha. I never lived in an apartment all by my self though...went straight from my college house, back to living at home again to moving in to our house after we got married. :)

  19. 5, shoot me. I lived with 3, 3, 2, & 1, but never lived alone. after my last roommate, Brandon and I moved in together. The less people I lived with the easier it got, thankfully. I did spend a one month stay at my parents while having knee surgery and ventured back out. We are currently looking to buy our first house, soon!

  21. My first apt on my own sounds exactly like yours. We've never owned a house bc of John being relocated so much. Hopefully one day soon!

  23. I love that y'all are making your new house your own home. Michael and I bought an older home and they updated the kitchen but that's about it. I freak out sometimes because we are still lacking furniture but he kindly reminds me we have been here less than a year and have 30 years left to do whatever we want with it. hehe.
