Drinking Veggies??

I'm happy to FINALLY have a chance to participate in the amazing Katie & Steph's link-up this week.

Even if it IS a semi-failed pin! ;)

Jared and I have been wanting to try all these "green" juices we see everywhere so we finally got brave and decided to give one a try. We tried to find one that didn't sound absolutely repulsive (I'm sorry-- the ones with beets in them scare me to death!) We stumbled upon one from the Dr. Oz show... and I love me some Dr. Oz so we went with his recipe.

1 apple (we threw in another half of one because I was scared!)
2 large handfuls of baby spinach
1/2 cucumber
2-3 ribs of chopped celery
1/2 inch ginger root (first time we ever bought this)
1 'bunch' parsley
Juice from 1/2 lime
Juice of 1/4 lemon

I got this bad boy -who I feel needs a name btw- for Christmas and I was SO excited to make the drink in here, thinking it would be perfect. Unfortunately, it just couldn't quite liquefy all the ingredients as well as you'd want it to. Trust me, we puree'd the crap out of them, but the end result was still a little thicker than what you would ideally want to drink.

Yum! Look at all those tasty ingredients though!!
So despite the texture not being what I'd like (hint-hint, I'll take a "real" juicer for my birthday... anyone? anyone?) but I was SO SURPRISED at how good it tasted!!! If you know me and my blog, you know it's always a struggle for me to eat healthy and stay on track. I swear every Mexican restaurant I pass calls my name!! Jared and I have really been making the effort lately to lead a healthier lifestyle- and it's definitely a challenge, but has been so worth it. I am proud to say that since Christmas I'm down ALMOST 10 pounds.

And since juicing all my veggies and fruits doesn't taste as bad as I imagined it to be,
then I can definitely do this again! :)

Do you have a favorite 'green drink' recipe I should try next??

  1. Congrats, pretty lady! You're on such a good track to health right now, and you know I LOVE IT!!!! The green drinks all intrigue me too, and I'm sure I'd like them, I'm just not sure I wanna invest in a juicer or anything right now.

I'll put my thinking cap on to come up with a name for your bad boy food processor :)

  2. Glad you found one you like! Last week I went on a seven day juice cleanse- so all I had for seven days was juice juice and more juice! My juicer really got a work out :) I really liked putting celery in mine- and cucumber too. Those were always my go-to ingredients. Plus an apple or orange to mellow out the vege taste.

  3. Lets brainstorm a name for that bad boy up there ;) we'll figure it out.

Also, that looks a little chunky for my liking. Maybe invest in that juicer... or the Disney fairies will get you one on your birthday? ;)

  6. I WANT to try a green juice/smoothie but I'm scared, ha! I don't know about juicing, but I've heard when making a smoothie or whatever that using frozen spinach is easier. Wonder if the same concept applies? Beets scare me to death too. Everyone says they are sweet but...I'll just take their word for it!

  7. I've been wanting to try one of these crazy drinks too but I get kind of freaked out my the ingredients. Do you think I could make them in a blender or do I need a fancy juicer? ps. I think you should name your juicer Spike...he looks like a Spike.

  8. YAY!! :) I have a blender, so I make green smoothies, and I really like those! The color/ingredients always make me nervous, but it's really good! Congrats on the 10 lbs!! That's AMAZING!

  9. I've been curious about this "juicing" fad as well. But I know I definitely don't have the proper equipment right now to try it. But good for you for experimenting! And also for losing almost 10 pounds already! That's great! Oh, and I think you should definitely give that guy a name. My sister and I like to name pretty much everything... :)

  10. Congrats on the 10 pounds down! Soo amazing to hear. I also somewhat started on the "juicing" bandwagon about two weeks ago and I bought something called the nutribullet, which I heard was a lot better then most juicers cause it chops it down better and you can add more water to it to make it thinner. I also put fruits in mine with certain nuts to add as a booster which make it taste a lot better to. Take a look at my blog cause I have a post of a favourite one for the drink I use!

  11. I have a juicer and it's great however, you don't get any of the fiber from the fruits and vegetables and I'm starving a little while later. For that reason I'm actually saving up for a Blendtec. This is a blender that blends everything down with not even a sharp blade! It's pretty awesome. I was in Sam'c Club (like Costco) and a guy was there demonstrating. He made a smoothie, hot soup, and healthy 'ice cream' all with this thing! I was impressed!

  12. Hmm, I might have to try that! I've wanted to for a while but I've been scared too! I want to see if I can trick my fiance into drinking one with me! Woohoo good for you!! :)

  13. I LOVE green smoothies. I don't have a juicer so I use my blender. My favorite is frozen banana, nonfat greek yogurt, peanut butter, spinach, almond milk, chai seeds, and ice. It is so yummy and low cal! I've also tried one of Dr. Ozs that was coconut water, lemon juice, banana, raspberries, blueberries, almond butter, and spinach. I substituted peanut butter for the almond butter. There are so many different combos you can try. So proud of you for sticking with your exercise and healthy eating!

  16. Way to go on the 10lbs!! I've been seeing these green juices everywhere lately. I hate all things green so I'm not sure if I could do this. What does it actually taste like? I'm intrigues but not sure if I'm brave enough haha.

  20. 10 pounds?!? GET IT GIRL!!! I am super proud of you :) I'm a bit scared of juicing too. I like green monster smoothies but I dunno about the juicing. I would need a real juicer because I'm a total texture freak! Keep it up love!

  21. Green just scares me as a beverage..but with that being said I'd still try it.

  32. My hubby just tried juicing. We borrowed my mom's (expensive, because seriously, who can afford those nice ones!) juicer. He made it 4 out of 14 days, and I have $200 worth of fruits and veggies in my fridge still, but I'm surprised he did it at all! & you're right - beets? I'm not so sure about those...
