Christmas Style

It's Friday- and a tough one at that. Jared's grandpa will be laid to rest this afternoon. Goodbyes are never easy, but as I've mentioned before, I know we can find peace in knowing we'll see him again one day. Please continue to keep their family in your prayers.

At first I started to apologize to you all for having this week be so "blah" and depressing on my blog, but I think you all understand. This is real life with the good and the bad. The blog community has shown me SO MUCH love this week though- and for that I am incredibly thankful.

I'm also thankful that Lindsay tagged me in a Christmas questionnaire of sorts. What better way to lift my spirits than to talk about Christmas?!

1. What makes Christmas such a special holiday for you and your family?
Since Jared and I have only been married about a year and a half, I think the most special thing has been starting our own traditions over the past couple of years. It's been so fun decorating our first home together, sending out a 'family' Christmas card and just creating traditions that we know one day our kids will be a part of too!
Jared- Christmas morning last year with some of his "manly" stocking stuffers ;)
2. Were you told the truth about Santa Claus by your parents or did you find out another way? AND do you plan on lying to your kids?
We actually didn't believe in Santa as kids. Jared did, and really wants to tell our kids about Santa and I'm totally fine with that. I just want my kids to always know the REAL meaning of Christmas, and to also be excited about giving, not just getting.

3. Real tree or fake tree?
Fake tree ALL the way. I like the ease of having a fake one, plus with my allergies I know it would be miserable trying to ever have a real one in the house.

4. Do you open presents on Christmas Eve, Morning or both?
It seems to change a little bit every year, and I think it'll continue to do so as families change, grow, move etc. We spend Christmas Eve at my grandma's house with allllll the extended family. No gifts there- just a check from Granny, crazy hats and a dance party :)

Christmas morning Jared and I plan on opening our gifts to each other, including stockings- my FAVE part of Christmas. Christmas with our parents/siblings is always up in the air. Sometimes we open them a few days prior to Christmas, sometimes a few days after... sometimes it's not until New Year's Eve/Day. I actually kinda' like it that way.... it feels like we always spread out Christmas as much as possible :)

5.What is your favorite Christmas movie to watch? And favorite Christmas song to listen to?
There are obviously SO MANY good ones, but at the top of my list are Elf (duh!), White Christmas and probably the Home Alone movies :)
I really hope someone else out there loves this 1950s classic!!
Favorite song..... hmm, Kelly Clarkson's version of 'Oh, Holy Night' is probably my favorite 'classic' type of song. And of course I love anything by Trans-Siberian Orchestra, All I want for Christmas is You, and that list could go onnn and onnn and on!

Bonus Question 6. What are you looking forward to THIS Christmas?
Jared & his brother tried to make 'short ties' come in style.... lol!
A billion and two things: Making gingerbread houses, getting our Christmas cards out soon (oops!), going caroling, seeing our favorite FREE Christmas production at a local church soon, double dates with our BFFs, baking goodies for our neighbors and spreading Christmas cheer by singing loud for all to hear!!!!
Christmas photo-booth fun!
So- what do you think? Any similarities, differences? I'm not going to tag anyone specifically- but consider yourselves ALL tagged if you want to join in and do this as well. Let me know, so I can see your answers :)

  1. I love your hubby's manly stocking stuffers. Too funny. I might need to steal this idea.
Also? These bottom two pictures crack me up. :)

  2. love all these pictures, so cute!!!

  3. I need to get in on that Jitterbuggin', fo realz! Y'all's holidays look super fun :)

    {happy thoughts, happy thoughts, happy thoughts today!}

  4. i'm so stealing the manly stocking stuffers idea for my hubby.
We don't do Santa at our house because I want to make sure my kids know the true meaning of Christmas and also who actually paid for their gifts joke!
We have an annual Christmas Eve party where Santa comes but my kids know its just their Uncle Ray dressed up.

  5. Fun! My prayers with Jared. I know how hard it is unfortunately. xoxo!

  6. Aw how fun. WHITE CHRISTMAS IS THE BEST! I love it and I'm glad you do too! Have you ever seen it at La Comedia? It's awesome. And no worries girl, my Christmas cards are not even ordered yet! They will get done eventually. :)

  7. Definitely praying!! Sending so much love your way today!
And I loved reading this post! It's so fun to learn how different families celebrate Christmas!

  8. I LOVE the last two pictures! So cute! I will absolutely be praying for you guys today, I hope God blesses you and all of Jared's family with His peace.

  9. Thinking of you today!! So happy the family can be together and get some closure.

This post got me soo excited! As much as I brag about my hot weather, it does not feel like Christmas as much down here! I love all your answers! My favorite christmas movie (actually my favorite movie for ALL seasons) is love actually! Then elf is a close second :) I MISS TALKING TO YOU ALL DAY EVERY DAY.

  10. I really enjoyed this post! I love seeing how others celebrate Christmas! :) Thank you for visiting the blog. You're awesome :) XOXO your newest follower

  11. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, girlie. Sending thoughts and prayers your way!

  12. We didn't believe in Santa as kids either. My grandma told us the truth when we were very small. John did. Our kids believe in Santa and it's fun for them. But I'm also trying to get them to understand it's Jesus's birthday. So we always back Jesus a cake or cupcakes on Christmas for his bday.

  13. Erin! I am super pumped you have a blog and Matt and I can stalk you and Jared now ;) We need to get together soon!

  14. What a fun blog post! I will definitely be "tagging" myself in it! lol Hope you two had a great weekend!

  15. Glad you did this girl and that it was able to lift your sprints as bit. I hope you guys were able to spend the weekend with family and that putting J's grandfather to rest felt as peaceful as possible. I think I am still in shock you didn't believe in Santa, but you are right about the meaning of the season. Loved looking at all these pictures!

  16. LOVE home alone and my fav fav fav christmas song is O Holy Night, ANY version of it- repeat repeat repeat!
