Nanowrimo… have you heard of it?

Have you heard of NaNoWriMo?? Maybe there are some other bloggers out there participating this month as well?

I learned what it was a couple of years ago when my older cousin participated in it for the first time. It means "National Novel Writing Month" and it's November! The challenge is to write an entire 50,000 word novel in one month. 30 days of non-stop creativity and writing.

Their website describes the challenge of a way to encourage people who have always wanted to write, to take charge and just DO IT ALREADY. Perhaps they've been scared away by the time and effort they feel it takes--- but now they only have one month to commit to it. It's now or never!

There really are no rules- just write, write from scratch and see if you can do it! There are no prizes, other than knowing you "won" and now have a complete novel. The goal isn't to have a novel ready to be shipped off to Barnes and Noble. It's to have a novel in it entirety, and that is what I'm striving for.

"Wait wait wait… you're going to write a novel AND keep up with your awesome blog this month?" I can already hear you asking ;) Kidding-- but yes, I AM crazy and I AM going to try this out. I attempted last year and just let the idea crumble way too quickly. But I'm in a different spot this year.

I've been at my current job, same position for 3 years now. I'm ready for a change. I'm ready to do something BIG. I've said for as long as I can remember that I wanted to be a writer. I've always had a creative side of me, and for a lot of my working adult life, I feel like it's been cramped. My job does NOT allow me to let loose and get crazy creative.

This is my chance. My chance to write what's always been in my head, to pursue a lifelong dream and yes, to have my name on a gorgeous hardback book… front and center at bookstores every where--- or your Kindle, thank you technology.

  3. One of my majors was creative writing.. and this has always always always been a dream of mine. Thank you so much for posting this! I think I may want to do this! Seems fun! Keep us posted on your progress with this, as I am very curious to see how well you do with it. What a cool thing you'll be able to have and look back on when you're done! And to be able to say that you wrote a novel... that's enough motivation within itself! You go girl! =)

  7. Good for you! My mom sent me this link, but I am so afraid that I am too far out of the writing game to come up with something good (I used to teach HS English, but then had the babies!). Good luck!

  9. I've never heard of this, but it sounds like a great idea! I don't have the time or creative mindset to do this anytime soon, but if it continues for years, maybe I'll give it a shot. :)
